Where is your team going? Do you plan on making the trip to some place warm or are you going to save your money and stay at home this year?
I looked into going to the football game in Texas, but even with tickets at a decent price the travel, hotel and food would make the trip well over $1000 if you want to do it right. By right I mean at least 3 days in the area to check out all of the local attractions, travel, the game itself etc. I figure I wait until PSU goes to a National Championship Game, (hopefully one more time before JoePa croaks) before I actually get a chance to go. I mean, face it, that could be a once in a lifetime chance and I do not intend to miss it.
Now, if you plan on getting to your teams game this season it is best to book early, by now I'm sure you will be parking far away from the venue and possibly outside of the city it is in! The later you book hotels, airlines or rental cars, and especially getting tickets, the prices steadily go up until they are almost unaffordable!
For most, the best solution is to stay home. Not only for the savings, but also the comfort. Most of the decent tickets are given to the super rich alumni, corporate sponsors etc. Fans are more likely to get seats in the upper decks or in the corner of the end zones unless they want to spend $1000 or more a ticket for something better. Plus, you also get the option to have many friends over to watch the game with you, and if you are in the fortunate position like mine being a Penn State fan in Columbus, Ohio, you get to gloat when your team wins their bowl game and your friends team gets blown out in theirs!
Stay or go, it is your choice. Depending on which bowl they are going to it may not be too far away or too expensive for that matter. Maybe take your family or children to their first game, spend a few days at the local attractions and have a ball. Or like most of us, grab a case of beer, some heart stopping foods, keep the cell phone nearby to receive all the harassment from those idiot Buckeye fans, err.. I meant your friends and have fun! And Go Penn State!!

Post a CommentThe game was great and we had a blast in San Antonio. The choice to go was easy for me since I am a Penn State fan living in Houston. It was hard to explain not having the A&M decorations with Texas plates though. :)
I really don't do football, but If I have to choose it would be the Michigan Wolverines.
