According to an Aug. 12 press release, anyone wanting to see the Sept. 9 Notre Dame Fighting Irish play the Penn State Nittany Lions at their Beaver Stadium home in Happy Valley better be ready to spend some cash. Ticket brokers are currently pricing tickets for the game at an average of $1,100 per seat.

Randy Cohen is the CEO of TicketCity.com, an online company that specializes in tickets for college sports and championship events. In the press release, Cohen said: "Demand for Penn State versus Notre Dame is as high as we've seen for any game in the past few years. There will be 100K plus people in there on game day to see one of the greatest match-ups this decade. Many of those fans will be turning to brokers to find those hard to get tickets."

As usual, Notre Dame is a popular team again this 2007 college football season. In fact, they're currently playing in four of the top five hottest games this fall season, as determined by prognosticators. Those five hottest games at this time are said to be: Penn State vs Notre Dame, Michigan vs Ohio State, Notre Dame vs USC, Michigan vs Notre Dame and Notre Dame vs Boston College.

Zack Anderson, the vice president of TicketCity.com, said that "Notre Dame is always a big ticket, whether they are playing at home or on the road. Love them or hate them, college football fans always want to see Notre Dame."

The way the games that make the list of the hottest for the season is determined is by the average ticket prices as compiled from the available tickets on the secondary market. There are over 800 established ticket brokers throughout the country, as well as numerous fans who have tickets to sell, that make up the secondary market.

Some of the games that make the hottest lists are traditional rivals, such as Auburn/Alabama, Florida/Georgia and Texas/Oklahoma. Although none of these games is in the top five list, all are in the top ten hottest games in college football this year. According to Anderson, "The rivalry games are big every year. Once you've been to them one time, you never want to miss it again. We have clients who buy their Red River Shootout (TX/OU) and Iron Bowl (Auburn/Bama) tickets from us every year. For them, nothing else matters other than making sure they are in that stadium for kick off."

Ticket prices fluctuate throughout the season, and the hottest games list is updated as the season continues. That being the case, college football fans can expect that Nick Saban will bring a surge in ticket sales for the LSU/Alabama game. When that occurs, the press release states, fans will no doubt see the Alabama home game jump into the top ten hottest games list.

Of that game, Cohen said: "The LSU game at Alabama should definitely wind up as one of the top 10 hottest games of the year. LSU fans are already coming out in droves to get tickets and travel to see their former coach (Saban). It should be an amazing scene in the stadium that day."

"I can't wait to laugh at all the penn state fans again this year who think they're going to beat notre dame :) ...and I went to penn state!"

Hmmmm, how you like them apples?

Notre Dame sucks and still they get all the hype. When is the last time they won a national championship? They should win every year because all of the media attention they receive.

Notre Dame will be lucky to win 4 or 5 games this year. Also, there will be some quarterbacks transferring because of lack of playing time. Mark it down!

I just wish I could get some PSU games out in China. And if ticket brokers are charging that much for the game, what can students expect if they want to pay their tuition by scalping their seats?

Man, those Notre Dame fans pay a lot of money to see their team fold against actual good teams.

  • Matt Nimerosky8/13/2007

I can't wait to laugh at all the Notre Dame fans who plunked down $1,000 per ticket just to see us beat them by 6 touchdowns!
