The three teams that should be affected most positively by the new college football rankings will be Boise State, TCU, and Utah. Boise State just beat Virginia Tech on Monday night 33-30, TCU beat No. 24 ranked Oregon State on Saturday, and formerly unranked Utah knocked off No. 15 Pittsburgh back on Thursday. There weren't that many games that pitted ranked teams against each other, and fewer still that didn't involve a highly ranked team against an opponent that they were supposed to crush. Florida and Oklahoma didn't impress as much as they should have, and that could cost them a few votes, opening up more Top 10 votes for Boise State and TCU.
For the Boise State Broncos, these could be the most important college football rankings of the first half in 2010, as their schedule gets a bit weaker after Virginia Tech. They need a boost from voters right now, and after they held serve in foreign territory against another Top 10 program, they deserve every vote they can swing this week. Will the coaches actually give Boise State more respect this week though? Or could they face still being ranked behind Florida, which was unimpressive in their win this weekend, even though the final score might not have indicated it. The two clear teams at the top of the college football world are Alabama and Ohio State right now, and that probably isn't going to change this week, no matter how good the outcome was for Boise State on Monday night. On the other end of the spectrum will be Oregon State, which took on a lot of risk by playing TCU in their 2010 opener, and the loss will knock them out of the Top 25 for sure.
