Other notable games included the TCU vs. Oregon State game, which matched No. 6 TCU against No. 24 Oregon State on Saturday night. TCU pulled out a nice 30-21 win, helped in part by a bad miscue in the fourth quarter by the Oregon State offense that resulted in a safety. They gave up two points and the ball on that play, and it cost them any real chance of coming back.
The North Carolina vs. LSU was also a very competitive looking one on paper, but with North Carolina missing so many players, they were short-handed against the SEC powerhouse. LSU just barely pulled this one out in the end though, and it could be indicative of just how much depth that North Carolina has on the defensive side of the ball.
The rest of the weekend belonged to the top seeded teams, with Oklahoma and Florida not looking too impressive in their wins, but notching the victories nonetheless. All of the weekend's festivities now lead to a monster Monday night game on the schedule, where Boise State heads out east to take on Virginia Tech in a game that could decide the fortunes of both schools in 2010. Boise State finished last year undefeated, and looks to prove that they once again belong in the national title discussion.
Utah, BYU, and TCU all won big games in their schedules, and suddenly the Mountain West looks like it could be a very tough division through the rest of the 2010 season. Can they rack up another BCS bowl birth at the end of this season? And would they be forced to play Boise State again in that bowl game? Or are there some upsets brewing for SEC teams that could shake up everything in week two? The college football season is about to get very exciting.
