College Football Scores 2010 Raise Some Opening Day Eyebrows

Robert Dougherty
Yesterday's college football scores held mostly to form. No college football scores had a top 25 upset, although there was a surprise or two. Jacksonville State football made national headlines for the first time, by upsetting Ole Miss in overtime. But although other SEC teams actually got wins, some of them weren't too impressive either. Meanwhile, some old powerhouses started their climb back to the top, while the night's top 25 showdowns went to the wire. Overall, the first big batch of college football scores 2010 had an impressive opening act for some, and a troubling one for others.

The most eyebrow raising result came when Jacksonville State upset Ole Miss in two overtimes, 49-48. The Rebels went up big early, yet Jacksonville State came back and finally won with a two point conversion. For the second straight year, Ole Miss is off to a disappointing start - yet they were ranked in the preseason top 5 this time.

The other Week 1 college football scores 2010 didn't have an upset, although a few teams got pushed more than they should have. Florida was out of sorts against a Miami of Ohio team that was 1-11 last year. Without Tim Tebow, the Gators could only get a 34-12 win, as the majority of their offense came in the fourth quarter. Meanwhile, Oklahoma barely got by Utah State, 31-24, avoiding their second straight season opening loss.

Other teams started their new eras with much better results. Texas handled Rice without Colt McCoy, 34-17, while Florida State blew out Samford without Bobby Bowdon, and Nebraska clamped down on Western Kentucky without Ndamukong Suh. Notre Dame won over Purdue to start the Brian Kelly era, while Michigan opened their larger Big House by dominating UConn.

The most discussed college football scores from the 9/4/10 night schedule came from the only top 25 showdowns. TCU, the other big hope for mid-majors in the BCS, started their national title run with a 30-21 triumph over Oregon State. Meanwhile, LSU was expected to have it easy against shorthanded North Carolina, but after taking a 20 point halftime lead, the Tigers needed a goal line stand to hold on, 30-24.

The SEC did not come off well in the first college football scores 2010, thanks to Ole Miss, Florida and LSU. Mid majors have picked off where they left off so far, with TCU and BYU beating Pac-10 teams after Utah upset Pitt. But the Pac-10 got the biggest blowout of opening weekend, as 11'th ranked Oregon throttled New Mexico, 72-0.

Despite all of the action yesterday, the most important college football score of the opening weekend will come tomorrow night, as Boise State and Virginia Tech get the spotlight all to themselves.

I guess they were afraid to post anything about Alabama Crimson Tide. That play edeveryone but the waterboy. And still made bigger impact than anyone in the top 25. If you did not see the game I
guess you would not want to comment on it. You must think Alabama is a pushover since they didnot run up the score to make everyone lookbad. Good luck next week when they play PSU ask Joe he will tell you it will be the biggest game to watch in week 2.
