College Football Stadiums: Colorado Buffaloes - Folsom Field
Part 2 in a Series Evaluating College Football Venues
This time, our series takes us to Boulder, Colorado, home of the Golden Buffaloes. As you walk to the stadium you can see the landscape of the beautiful Rocky Mountains...
On a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being the best football experience of a lifetime), let's take a look at how Colorado stacks up.
Friday Night: N/A
I have to be honest; I did not go bar hopping during this road trip for fear of altercations with the CU students. It was suggested I not go out to party the night before the game, so I obliged. Feel free to discuss the Boulder night life in the comments section below.
Tailgate: 6
In my opinion, tailgating can always improve and Colorado is no different. The group I was with did not have the chance to get close enough to the stadium to really soak in the atmosphere. We had a good time in the parking lot of a distant apartment complex. In the end, beer is beer, and the ice cold Rockies never disappoint in this regard.
Pre-Game: 4
The band is not bad and the running of Ralphie the Buffalo before each game is actually pretty neat and I feel the Colorado faithful take both for granted. The reason behind the low score is the students of Colorado University. My group, college-aged at the time, was the victim of several acts of unprovoked verbal abuse. One group of students went as far as to suggest we should fight them right in front of the stadium. As I see it, students at CU are the worst fans in college football.
Atmosphere: 7
Historic stadium, small replay boards, rude fans, rowdy student section, and great food. It's a complicated mix of elements in Boulder. The bottom line for me is beautiful and historic Folsom Field, which is situated in the middle of a brilliantly designed campus, which sits next to a backdrop of mountains in the skyline.
Stadium Engineering: 6
There's an okay amount of restrooms in Folsom Field, just barely enough to service everyone's needs. It's pretty easy to get to your seats on time, unless you have to walk through the student's section.
Decibel Level: 5.5
Colorado fans can bring it...when they care...which is almost never. Buff 'em up, Buff 'em up, GO CU.
Overall: 7
If you're into sights and sounds, then Colorado is the place for you. If you desire hospitality and camaraderie, then I would stay clear of Boulder.

Post a CommentI still have a hard time believing they could be as bad as Missouri fans.
Went to the bars there before game. Obviously Bouler is a very "cool" place with good scenery and the bars fit that as well. We were NOT treated well prior to the game. Lots of verbal assaults. I'm not usually a language stickler but to be called things like that in public, loudly, with no concern what-so-ever for who else was around to hear is low class. Personally, I couldnt care less what somebody says to me, but to do it around children or to yell the same things to senior citizens??? Come on CU...that truly makes you second (may third) class people in my mind. Anyway, back to the bars...after the game we went back to my buddies for awhile(had to, the students were kicked out of the stadium and were rioting and the cops with riot gear told us we couldnt go downtown) but then came back later. We bar hopped and had a great time. I cant remember the bar name but after all the CU backers were passsed out or arrested the NU fans took it over and were actually singing the fight s
