For this project, you will need (per set of four coasters):
- Half inch thick plywood
- Four inch circle shaped stencil
- Pencil
- Jigsaw or other tool used to cut wood
- Medium or fine grit sandpaper
- Tack cloth or other similar style soft cloth
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in a coordinating color to your favorite team's colors
- College football print scrapbook paper featuring your favorite team (available at scrapbook supply shops or online)
- Pencil
- Craft knife
- Self healing mat
- Sponge brush
- Mod Podge or other decoupage medium
- Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic Finishing Spray
- Newspaper and/or a large drop cloth
Cover the space in which you will be crafting these coasters with newspaper sheets and/or a large drop cloth. Lay the piece of half inch plywood out flat on the workspace. Using a pencil and a four inch circle shaped stencil, trace our four coaster shapes onto the wood. Carefully cut out each circle using a jigsaw or other wood cutting tool. Sand down the outside edges and both sides of each circle using sheets of medium or fine grit sandpaper. Use a tack cloth or other similar style soft cloth to wipe away any dust on the wood created by the sanding process.
Spray both sides and the edges of all four coasters using Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in All-Purpose White. Use three or four thick coats of primer. Let the primed coasters dry for a couple hours before proceeding. Paint each coaster with a couple coats of Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in a coordinating color to your favorite team's colors. Keep adding paint coats until you reach a desired hue. Dry overnight.
Lay the pieces of college football print scrapbook paper face down onto the self healing mat. Use one wooden coaster circle as a template to create four circles in pencil on the paper. Carefully cut out each paper circle using a craft knife.
Apply Mod Podge or other decoupage medium to the back of one paper circle with a sponge brush. Adhere the circle to the center of the coaster circle. Smooth the paper using your fingertips to aid in adhesion and prevent paper wrinkling. Repeat this step for the remaining three coaster circles and papers. Let the glue dry fully.
Spray each coaster circle with a few layers of Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic Finishing Spray. Dry overnight before using your new coaster creations.
