For this project, you will need:
- One paper lampshade in any size
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in a coordinating colored shade
- Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic Finishing Spray
- College football print fabric
- Iron and ironing board
- Fabric marking pen
- Fabric scissors
- Sponge brush
- Mod podge or other type of decoupage medium
- Craft roller
- One inch wide ribbon in a coordinating color
- Regular scissors
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
- Coordinating lamp
- Newspaper and/or a large drop cloth
Cover your work area with several sheets of old newspaper and/or a large drop cloth to protect it during this lampshade project. Set the paper lampshade flat on the workspace. Prime the outside of the shade with a light coat of Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White. Once dry, paint the shade using a few coats of Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in a coordinating colored shade. Dry completely.
Gently place a piece of college football print fabric onto an ironing board. Smooth the fabric using a warm iron. Once cooled, place the fabric print side down on the work area. Determine the amount of fabric needed to wrap around the lampshade horizontally and leave a one inch border at the top and bottom. Mark this dimension onto the fabric with a fabric marking pen. Carefully cut out the design from the college football print fabric with a pair of fabric scissors.
Apply a generous amount of Mod Podge or other decoupage medium to the back of the fabric with a sponge brush. Adhere the college football print fabric to the painted lampshade, leaving a one inch gap at the top and bottom of the shade. Smooth the fabric piece with a small craft roller. Let the glue set for a couple hours. Spray the entire lampshade using Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic Finishing Spray. Dry completely.
Heat up the hot glue gun. Cut a length of one inch wide ribbon in a coordinating color. Wrap the ribbon around the center of the embellished lampshade. Tie in a knot and trim the ends of the ribbon. Secure with a few dots of hot glue. Once cooled, install the lampshade on a coordinating lamp.
