There are a lot of college seniors that are just about to graduate. They have spent a lot of time, energy and hard work trying to complete the necessary requirements for graduation only to be propelled into the toughest job market yet. Unemployment is at the highest rate it has been in 25 years. In order to find a job college graduates must really do their homework and prepare diligently.

Experience

Most graduates will be going up against a lot of people with tons of experience. If there is any jobs or duties that were held in college it would be a good idea to expound on them on your resume. Any type of experience you have had will help your cause. Now is the time to be really creative.

Network

Another way to find a job is by networking. This is how 80% of jobs are found. Look for clubs and organizations to join. You never know who you will meet. Order some business cards with your name and contact information and start passing them out. Let people know you are actively looking for a job.

Other avenues

You may not find a job in you area of expertise so don't be afraid to branch out and take something now to tide you over until the economy gets better. If you stick to your major course of study when looking for a job you are cutting off a number of opportunities. You may take a job not within your expertise but 2 or 3 months down the line an opening may become available that's more in line with your career goals and objectives.

Exhaust your resources

Post your resume on some of the career job posting boards and check our every resource you can possibility think of.

College placement

Your college probably has a college placement program which can assist you with looking for a job. Register with them and see what you need to do.

Resume

Have your resume professionally done. If you don't have the money find a friend on campus who may be able to get this done for you.

When you are looking for a job everything counts. Don't leave any stones unturned. If things don't improve you may want to consider graduate school or even the military. If you enlist in the military you may be able to receive some assistance with student loans.

Internships

There are probably some internship that you can explore. Some of these opportunities may pay a small salary as well. Anything is better than nothing at this point. It's going to take some work, creative thinking and persistence to navigate through these rough waters.

Conclusion

Unemployment is not likely to get better any time soon. Well over 60% of companies surveyed say they intend to cut back this spring on hiring college graduates. Unemployment could spike to high as 10% this year. Some think the rate of unemployment is already near 16% to 17% when you factor in all the people who have stopped looking for work. Expect the worst but do everything you can and despite the dismal forecast keeping moving forward.
