College Group Halloween Costume Ideas

If you're going to a college Halloween party in a group, you and your friends can have a lot of fun by wearing similar costumes. There is a wide range of popular costumes, so you have plenty to choose from. You can either make these Halloween costumes yourself or buy them cheaply from a costume store or online. Try out some of these hot group costumes with your college friends this Halloween.

College Group Halloween Costume Idea: Toga Costumes

What's a college party without a toga? A toga is one of the best homemade Halloween costumes because you can make it out of a bed sheet. If you use silky fabric such as polyester satin, you can make a sexy toga. To make a men's toga, take a white king sized top sheet and fold it lengthwise. Wrap the sheet around your body once just below the chest. Bring the corner of the sheet around in back of your body and pull the corner over your shoulder. Take another corner from in front of you and pull it back, tying it in a knot with the back corner. Secure the tie with a safety pin.

Create a women's toga by wrapping the sheet with the same technique above the breast area. You can also make a women's peplos by folding the sheet in half lengthwise, then folding the top edge downward about a foot and a half. Wrap the sheet around your body, then pin it at the shoulders and bind the waist with a cord. Make a chiton by pinning the sheet at several places along your arms. Finish the costume by wearing sandals. When wearing Greek or Roman attire such as a toga to a party, always wear shorts or a bathing suit underneath.

College Group Halloween Costume Idea: 70s Disco Costumes

The men in your group could wear a white leisure suit and dark shirt from Saturday Night Fever. Another 70s disco costume idea for men is to wear a shirt in a very loud print and wear some very shiny or metallic pants. Bell bottoms would also work well for the men's 70s disco Halloween costume. You can make this costume complete by wearing platform shoes. If your hair isn't long, get a shoulder-length wig.

The women in your group can wear colorful mini-dresses and go-go boots. Wear your hair long and straight and put on a brightly colored headband or wear it in a Farrah Fawcett style by curling it softly and brushing it back away from your face. For pale skin, wear pink blush and lipstick, false eyelashes, blue or green cream eyeshadow and liquid eyeliner. For darker skin, go with plum, copper or brown tones.

College Group Halloween Costume Idea: 80s Rocker Costumes

Have the men in your group wear tight pants in a wild print like tiger or leopard. Add a black sleeveless shirt, a long fright wig, a colorful headband, sunglasses and a guitar. You can also make this Halloween more complete by putting temporary tattoos on the men in the group.

Have the women in the group wear a ruffly or lacy miniskirt or minidress, a brightly colored blouse, lots of belts, bracelets and an enormous necklace and pair of earrings. Add fishnet hose, leggings or panty hose and a headband with a huge bow. Some of the girls in the group can also wear fingerless fishnet or lace gloves, a brightly colored wig and sunglasses. If you're not wearing a wig, style your hair in tight curls.

College Group Halloween Costume Idea: Renaissance Costumes

The men in your group can make a simple Renaissance costume by wearing brown pants, black boots, a linen shirt with ruffled sleeves and a brown cloth or leather laced bodice. The simplest Renaissance costume for women is the tavern wench. Just get a linen shirt, a long skirt and put shorter skirt and laced bodice on top. Wear high-heeled boots and carry a beer stein. The men could also dress up as Renaissance pirates like Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean, and the women could dress up as sexy lady pirates.

If you want fancier renaissance costumes, you'll either have to buy them cheaply on a website like Buy.com or make them from a pattern. You can find the patterns on the McCall's website or on an online auction website such as eBay. Make sure that you get started on your costume at least a month or two before Halloween so that you'll have plenty of time to finish it.

College Group Halloween Costume Idea: Funny Costumes

Funny costumes are some of the most popular college Halloween costumes. You could all go as fat superheroes by dressing in stuffed sweat suits with the appropriate superhero emblems and accessories. Another funny group Halloween costume idea is a cross-dressing costume. Every member of the group must dress in the clothing of the opposite gender. Men must wear feminine, frilly dresses and women must wear men's suits, ties and hats. If you're all men, you could dress up as beer. Make costumes in the shape of a beer keg, bottle or can or buy matching beer costumes online. You could also all go as Geico cavemen by pasting fake hair on your face with spirit gum and dressing in regular street clothes. Guys and girls alike could all go to the Halloween party dressed as nerds. Just get some unfashionable pants that are a little too short (a plaid skirt will do for the girls). Put this together with a short-sleeved white button down shirt, a pocket protector, a pair of black-rimmed glasses with tape in the middle and some hair gel and your nerd group Halloween costume will be complete.
