College: Love it or Hate It

Heather Prestidge
Going through my first year of college has been one of the most exciting learning experiences I've ever had. In high school, I took college prep courses and I can see how that helped prepare me for college. I was always told different stories about college; like it's time consuming and hard, most kids who really want to be in college make it through their first semester fine and many more opinions. As a high school student, my mind about college was already made up because of what all of my teachers were telling me.

I am still a freshman in college and I love every bit of it. I do find it interesting though that there are still some classmates from high school who don't go to college and have no desire to. I asked a friend from work why he wasn't attending college and his response was because he was stupid in high school. I can't say I had the best GPA in high school, but my GPA has gone up by a lot of points. There are many college students that I'm friends with and see a lot, some of them hate it and some of them love it.

My most failing grade in high school was math and I convinced myself I wouldn't make it in college but here I am loving every moment of it. My advice to most high school students is to not listen to others opinions about college because the experience is different for everyone. The word college is used as a scary tool in our society today. Most kids will love college and some will hate college. Even though college will make a person more successful, it really isn't for everyone.
