Even if you wait for your "no-tax" days, there is no guarantee that what you want will still be there, but whatever you do, make it soon. Time is running out!
Especially for those of you whose colleges or universities begin the last week in August. As it is, items that were bundled together for college students are already out of stock. For example, a compact refrigerator, a microwave oven and a George Foreman grill for $145 dollars! Gone!
I've prepared a list of the items that Walmart has listed as College 09. Take a look at all the wonderful items - at very reasonable prices and see what you think.
College Bed In A Bag
Beautiful and vibrant colors that are suitable for both the young ladies and the young men. At least 25 different designs to choose from. Some are in twin and full sizes, but others range from twin to king size. All are machine washable, so your son or daughter won't have to worry about dry cleaning.
Bed in a bag comes with the comforter, the sheet set and 2 pillowcases; one pillowcase if you purchase the Twin XL size. The prices range from $31 to $70 dollars. They can all be purchased on line, or you can check to see if the one you like is available at the store nearest to you.
Compact Refrigerator and Freezer
There are several brand names like GE, Black & Decker and Haier. Haier makes several brilliant colors you can choose from... like pink, orange, dark purple, black and white. The compact refrigerators are just the size to fit in any dorm room, and I'm sure you will find colors to please either male or female college student.
They range in sizes from 1.7 cubic feet to 4.6 cubic feet. I had one of these compact refrigerators and discovered that they are very light and easy to clean. Just what your college student needs. Easy! The prices range from $78 to $265 dollars.
Microwave Ovens
The colors are basically white, black and stainless steel, but they range in sizes from 0.7 cubic feet to 2.2 cubic feet. You will find the price range is all over the place, but for college, I would stay in the range of $65 to $100 dollars.
If I'm not mistaken, there may be a certain amount of watts a student is allowed to have hooked-up in their dorm room, and the bigger the microwave, the more wattage you use. But there are several styles to choose from, and they are all on line.
Coffee Maker
The ones that I think are nice are the ones made by Kalorik. There are two colors to choose from, tangerine and white, and lime and white. They have had excellent reviews, and cost only $24. If you would prefer a more familiar name however, then you can purchase a Mr. Coffee coffee maker for $17 dollars, but the reviews weren't too great for this particular coffee maker. The Kalorik can only be purchased on line.
Blender
Again, the brand to choose would be the Kalorik, and again the same two colors are being offered. The lime and white, and the tangerine and white. This is a 2-speed blender that does the normal blending, chopping, grating and crushing. The price is $25 dollars and can only be purchased on line.
Cordless Jug Kettle
If you think your child may not be in the mood to fool with a coffee maker, or they may prefer tea instead... then the cordless jug kettle by Kalorik is perfect for them. It comes in the tangerine and white, and just plain white. It costs $24 dollars and can heat water faster than a micro wave if they want to make tea, instant coffee, hot chocolate or instant soup.
Single-Burner Portable Electric Range Hot Plate
If you want to purchase something where they will be able to cook very light meals, then this will probably do better. If you purchased a grill, you would only be able to grill. With the hot plate, you can cook eggs and bacon or heat and boil water, and the price is only $18 dollars for the Aroma Single-Burner Portable Electric Range Hot Plate. This is another item that is sold on line only.
3 in 1 Breakfast Set
This is a wonderful deal, and you should get it while you still can. It's made by Kalorik and you get a coffee maker, a toaster oven and a griddle in one. This is idea if space is an issue, and it costs only $44 dollars. You can't bet this deal! So jump on it! It appears appliances made by Kalorik are only sold on line.
Lamps and Lighting
This is something you would have to take a look at for yourself. There are so many desk lamps and floor lamps, and so many different styles and colors, that it would be hard pressed to choose just one. The good news is that the majority of them are either $10 dollars or $15 dollars. With all this to choose from, there is sure to be something there for your college student. The lamps are a mixture of purchase on line only and carried in stores.
Accent Rugs
I'm sure you will be able to find an accent rug that matches the comforter set, but if not, check out all the accent rugs they offer on line. There is a nice selection you can choose from, and one of these could match the comforter set better. They have different designs, but they are mostly contemporary, with all the brilliant colors and designs. If I were you, I would stay within the 39x60 to 40x60 rug size, and the $16 to $30 dollar price range.
Lounging Chair
If you think your child would prefer to lounge in comfort, then have a look at the chairs being offered. Again there are a lot, but there were several that jumped out at me. The traditional bean bag for $53 dollars, a moon chair for $45 dollars, a bean bag chair for $55 dollars and the video wireless rocker that runs $145 dollars. Check with your child to see which they prefer. They are all comfortable, and the only thing to consider is what does your college student want to relax in.
This list could be endless with the possibilities of items you should purchase for your child's dorm room, but I'm going to assume you get the idea and can take it from here. The way to do this is to have your child make out a list of the things they will need, then you go over it, and either yea or nae it.
As I stated above. Time is running out, and since a lot of the items I mentioned have to be purchased on line, then shipped, why not take the time and do your college shopping at Walmart now. The prices are fantastic and the deals can't be beat anywhere else.
