A lot of writers have this same complaint. It goes with the territory. The worst offender is my fiancée.
I can be typing at the computer, busy at work, when she will walk in and start talking to me. It is like the document that I am working on is invisible, as is the frustration that I feel whenever she does this. She will continue talking until I lose all hope of regaining the train of thought I was on. And heaven forbid that I do this to her.
For awhile I tried to work in an office using the second best computer. Even then it didn't stop her. I even tried closing the door, but then I got the parade of cats insisting that the door needed to stay open. Talking or scratching, that was the choice I was given.
Unfortunately, this problem has extended itself to my college homework. I can be trying to write a paper, or reading the twenty pound Shakespeare textbook and she will call from the other room to get me to do something. Sometimes, this even extends to helping her fix the grammar in her own homework.
I ask this: how is her homework more important than mine? And why did my literature professor chose the heaviest Shakespeare book on the market? And I have to lug it around twice a week.
Ok, I have many pet peeves. It is just that some get more attention than others. Blame it on my sun sign.
Aries (March 21 to April 20): Aries is a sign of activity, and you want classes to end as quickly as possible. You are happiest when a class is about to end, and there is nothing that annoys you more than a student asking an inane question at the last moment. The dumber the question is, the more annoying it is to wait for the answer.
Taurus (April 21 to May 21): It is not often that you succumb to the call of the vending machines; but when you do, you want it to take your money in an orderly fashion and have the selection that you desired. You have not yet committed violence on a vending machine, but the machines shouldn't push their luck by denying you your snack.
Gemini (May 22 to June 21): The mind of Gemini is blown here and there by the slightest breeze. You know this and do your best to stay focused on one item at a time. Therefore, it annoys you when people digress, especially the professors. You want to tell them to stuck to the topic, or at least make it relevant to the topic at hand.
Cancer (June 22 to July 22): You like the comforts of home and you would like to go and enjoy it sometime. Unfortunately, there are some people, including your boss and professors, who seem to think that you have no life outside of work and school. The more work they pile up on you, the crabbier you get.
Leo (July 23 to August 22): There is nothing that Leos like more than being in the spotlight. And there is nothing that they hate worse than those people who try to take the spotlight away from them, especially if they are determined not to give it back. Class clowns, teacher pets, and future movie stars should beware of your wrath.
Virgo (August 23 to September 22): As a Virgo you are precise in your use of language, and it bugs you whenever anyone starts to use words in an improper manner. For instance, you know that it is impossible to give more than a hundred percent of your energy to a project. You should resist the urge to buy dictionaries for the offenders.
Libra (September 23 to October 22): Libras take pride in being able to see all sides of an issue, so it aggravates you when someone believes that they are the only ones who understands a social injustice. You saw the problem long before the other person did, and they should step out of the way of your perfect solution.
Scorpio (October 23 to November 21): Of all the sun signs, Scorpio is the most sensitive of their personal space. Because of this, one of your biggest pet peeves at college is the stacking of students in the classrooms like they are a bunch of sardines. You don't mind being physically close to people, but you would like to choose whom you are close to.
Sagittarius (November 22 to December 21): The native of Sagittarius realizes that they are where they are for a reason. When you are at work, it is to earn money; when you are at school, it is to attend lectures; so it annoys you when strangers try to sell you stuff at work and school. You are also not fond of telemarketers and political surveys.
Capricorn (December 22 to January 19): Capricorns like to be at the top of the class, or at least in a comfortable spot on the curve. Therefore, it is dismaying when some student is so dedicated or brilliant that they threaten to destroy the curve or make the professor think the class might be too easy for the rest of you.
Aquarius (January 20 to February 18): Your biggest pet peeve in college is one that you can do nothing about, and that is being told what classes you have to take. You don't mind taking classes when you foresee using the skills in the future, but some of the classes the administration require you to take look like so much busywork.
Pisces (February 19 to March 20): If there is one thing that annoys Pisces, it is people who are bragging about how trashed they got the night before. Pisces knows all about the dark side of partying and don't consider it something to be proud of. Getting all your homework done despite being addicted to the nightlife---maybe; just getting trashed---no.
