College: Is There a Need for a Laptop?

School has just started. You see kids scrambling to get to their classes, some carrying bags with their books, some carrying cases with laptops in them.

These students use laptops for several things in school, and you've just started wondering whether or not you should be in possession of a laptop while in your new college.

You get tired of thinking about it and decide to ask one of the students at your school. He tells you several things about laptops and what exactly you should have one for. He pretty much explains to you that it's nearly required to have a laptop in college.

Assignments
Laptops are a great use for completing assignments. It's extremely easy to type assignments out and turn them in, rather than to write them all out. Professors are definitely going to prefer types assignments. You'll do much better on assignments if you have the ability to just type them out in class.

Notes
It's much, much easier to take notes if you're able to do this without the use of a pen and paper! Most people can type faster than they can write, therefore taking notes on a laptop is going to save them a bunch of time. In college, you'll see that you'll get cramps from writing all the time, and with the use of a laptop, you can eliminate this problem.

Internet
You're going to have a direct need for the Internet while you're in college. Almost everyone will use the Internet. It'll be a great place for a social life, such as social networking websites like Facebook and Myspace. Another great use for the Internet is research. You don't want to be the kid that goes to the library every day to research their papers. Just get out your laptop, and hop on the Internet on there.

Beat Boredom
Although it's not necessarily recommended, a lot of students tend to get on Facebook and other sites while in class. You'll see this quite often, students doing things from other classes, etc. It's a great way to stay focused during class, regardless of whether or not it's in the right place.

Overall, the student explained several advantages to having a laptop in my school, and no major disadvantages. I feel as if I need a laptop now, and I plan on purchasing one soon.

A laptop is important in college for just about all students, if you get one, you won't regret it.
