College Tips for Transferring Credits

Many colleges claim to have "Transferable Credits", but one can never be to sure when it comes to trusting the colleges claim. Though many colleges do follow through with the sincerity of their claim and will actually help you transfer credits, find out which ones really do transfer and which wont, and will also show you were you can transfer the credits to. The campus counselors will help anyone willing or needs help when transferring credits as well as helping which classes would be of the best interest of the students' major and minor degrees.

When choosing the right college, always make sure that their credits can at least have a 50 percent conversion rate to other colleges and universities. By doing this you are creating a sort of Easter egg with your credits as you complete the courses provided by the college. One can never truly know if they are going to stay at that college or university for their whole time it takes to complete a specific degree. By having at least half of the credits earned able to move to another college, you will be able to keep your schooling close to the time frame of the last college or even decrease the time needed to gain a degree.

There are places though, that will trap you into staying or give you the option if you leave, none of the credits earned will move to another school. One college in particular that does this is ITT Technical Institute. They do not do this to horde students or use it to be snide if the student wants to go to another school. They do this so they can have a certain system to help students get their degree faster. Their credits are only transferable to their different schools. They count differently than other colleges and universities and actually teach a bit more in a semester than other colleges. So there is a benefit to going to this school, but there is also a downfall as well.

By always keeping in mind that credits are what make a degree and not money, will help you immensely in the long term goals of any college you go to. Another benefit of doing this is it will help keep a person focused on schooling and not slack off as so many students due during their course of their ideal degree.

When checking the transfer percent of a college's credit system, do not just check your primary college of interest. Check with other schools that you may think you will want to go to perhaps if you change your mind over the years. It is always best to be safe instead of sorry.

Overall remembering how to transfer and where your credits transfer may require a bit of extra work on your part, but it will pay off in the end. A little more work never hurt anyone and by doing this you can be proud of yourself knowing, you are a step ahead of the game.
