CollegeInsider.Com Postseason Basketball Tournament, Do We Really Need Another NCAAB Tournament?

Michael Luchies
The NCAA Tournament field was announced and my 18-14 Bradley Braves obviously were left out of the field. I still had hope that somehow the Braves would be a 7 or 8 seed in the NIT tournament, once again they were left out. My final hope rested on Bradley being invited to the CBI (Collegiate Basketball Invitational), and my hopes were dashed as Bradley was not invited to the tournament. I hoped somehow that I had just missed seeing Bradley's name within the CBI field and typed in Bradley Braves on Google. I was taken by surprise when I saw the headline "BU Make Postseason Tournament". As I went to the article I discovered that someone felt in necessary to create another postseason men's basketball tournament, the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament. The Bradley Braves will host Austin Peay in the Inaugural CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament. Although I am glad that I will get to see my team play another game, is there really a need for a fourth postseason men's basketball tournament?

The tournament consists of 16 teams; Here are the first round match-ups-
Tuesday March 17
Rider (19-12) @ Liberty (22-11)
Kent State (19-14) @ Oakland (22-12)

Wednesday March 18
The Citadel (20-12) @ Old Dominion (21-10)
Mount St. Mary's (19-13) @ James Madison (19-14)
Austin Peay (19-13) @ Bradley (18-14)
Belmont (19-12) @ Evansville (17-13)
Portland (19-12) @ Pacific (19-12)
Drake (17-15) @ Idaho (16-15)

Just think of the possibilities! Idaho vs. The Citadel, Drake vs. Rider, who wouldn't be excited? I guess as long as these smaller schools sell tickets, the tournament has relevance.. but would you watch a single game of this tournament if not a fan of one of these teams?

I really like watching NIT games. I think having 4 tournaments is fine. There is only one NCAA tournament, but these guys want to keep playing. When you think about the fact that there are now well over 300 D-1 teams, the top 1/3 deserve to play more.
