Tips for What to Do when Coloring Your Hair at Home

Jenia Silver
For women, home cosmetically care may be a short cut to saving money. While, going out to the spa or salon during tough economical times is no longer a choice. However, doing certain procedures yourself is not as simple as it appears to be. One of the area I have experience in hair coloring. I recommend these tips in learning how to buy the products and apply it for the best results.

Be careful of the brands you buy

My first time buying a color hair product went well. I choose a drug store box kit that was on sale. The Garniea advertisements on the television were impressive enough I wanted my hair to smell like avocados. Their formula is quality, and one of the only brands that contains extra oils to protect the shine and texture of the hair. While the next brand I tried was not so great. In fact hair became brittle and dry days after using Clairol. I will never use their products again.

Shop around, Try the discount Beauty Stores

For the third I went to color my hair at home. Now I had found store advisers as help in choosing a better brand. The Sally's Beauty Store is aimed for professionals, and offers discounts on all of their merchandise. That is where I purchased the Ion formula. Buying the color, developer, conditioner, and bottles freely outside of the box offered the best quality. Even though it is two to three times more expensive than the boxed name brands, you are still saving when comparing the cost having someone else do it for you.

Follow the directions on the Product

If you have never colored your own hair, or if you have read the directions carefully. Most company's that make color treatments suggest a testing patch of hair before you color, up to 48 hours. Timing how long the lathered chemicals remain on the hair is how the effect is delivered. Leaving a product on too long, or not mixing the solution properly can become disastrous. Lastly, make sure to always rinse out the color and give the hair it's reward in moisturizing with the conditioner.

Maintain the roots, and re-color each 2-6 weeks

Keeping this habit is what makes this cosmetically enhancement a costly adventure. Knowing which products to use and how can set a friendly budget . The worst thing to do, is to not touch up the scalp and roots area regularly. Easily other people can tell the difference, and it is a tacky one to avoid. For my long hair, I need two bottles of color: one for the roots to recolor, and one for the rest of the hair. In getting even color I took advice and set the upper portion of the hair to be on twice as long. Make proper considerations for the amount and time during the second and beyond treatments.

Take a photo before and after

Without keeping visual records of the changes it may not be immediately the color can be noticed. Depending on the shade of color you choose to change from, the result may not be the look desired. In taking my own pictures I could see how the transformation occurred. Most brands show some type of display encouraging a promise of dramatically contouring change to darken or lighten. So, verify this yourself. I show my own testimonies in pictures for inspiration.

Coloring your own is not a tough task. Recommended timing ranges from 30-2 hours. To learn more about comparison of brands visit a beauty store in your area.
