Color Schemes to Decorate Your Home

One of the best ways to express yourself and your personality in your home is with color. White walls not only do not inspire it also can show that you don't have the courage to play with the color on your walls. If you don't know where to start or what color schemes would works the following are some ideas that should help you get started. But first thing first, do not be afraid of color! Really the worst thing that could happen is you don't like it and you repaint it. Onto color schemes, first you need to make sure you go with colors that you love. Don't try to find neutral colors if you like jewel tones or pastels. Taupes and tans are only great if that is what you really like.

Now if you like earthy colors or maybe you love to be outdoors then bring some of those colors indoors. You can put a rich chocolate brown as an accent wall, or perhaps a sage green. Once you have picked a color for your wall in these tones like a rich blue like the ocean than you can plan around it. For earth tones put up shelves that are brown or natural wood, and then accent with green vases, blue trinkets, or pictures of loved ones in colored frames. These colors would be great for a living room, or a den, even a study.

If you are like me I love red, deep crimson red and wanted that for my wall. Red although a bold color can be toned down with light tans and creams, or brought up into a monochromatic scheme with black and white and red, very stark. Red also looks wonderful with other jewel tones, like plums, amber, and emerald. You could do reds and oranges and purples for a more Middle Eastern theme. You could also do cranberry red and plum purple to make a bedroom rich and luxurious. Just remember with bold colors it is usually good to take a tamer light or neutral tone and mix it in. Such as if you do this in a bedroom and your paint your wall red, you can make your comforter black, taupe, or cream and then toss many different through pillow is red and purple and black over the bed. One the red wall you can put a black and white print or white shelves. Contrast is a wonderful thing.

Bright colors like orange, canary yellow, and spring green also have their place. This is good for bathrooms or kitchens, or even sun rooms. Paint an accent wall with bright yellow and adding photos of spring or decorations in a rich orange would brighten up the room. If you are feeling adventurous you can also make stripes such as yellow and orange vertical stripes across the whole room. Another great tip is to paint the ceiling fan blades an accent color.

When it comes to colors in your home just remember most colors go together so if you love yellow and red tie them together with burnt orange and it will look great. Just make sure when you paint and decorate that you are using the colors you love, because being in a home that inspires you will make you more content to live within those walls. And be adventurous if you want to be it won't hurt anybody and take almost no time to fix a mistake.
