Color and Theme Tips for a Small Bathroom

Amy Stepp
Raise your hand if you have a small bathroom with no natural light and you are tired of the room making you feel cramped. My hand was raised with all of yours until I did something about it. It took me a while to decide on how to make my small bathroom feel larger, and now I am here to share my tips with you so your decision process does not take as long as mine.

Tip 1:
Choose a color that is bright and light. Dark colors are only going to make your space even more smaller. Any color from white, sky blue, light sea green, soft yellow and even a pale red will make your small bathroom appear larger then it really is.

Tip 2:
Choose a color that is one that you will want to grow with. A small bathroom is a pain to paint, so the less time you have to do it the better.

Tip 3:
Add height to the room by breaking the room in half. With this I mean, add the color you choose to the bottom of the walls, add a chair rail in the middle and then add white to the top of the walls. This make the room have an endless ceiling height.

Tip 4:
Only paint one wall a specific color in the room. For example, stand in the door and look at the opposite wall from you. Paint that wall the color of your choice, preferably the light color that will match the hallway you are standing in. Then paint the rest of the walls white. This will make the room look longer then it actually is.

Last but not least, to make any color in your small bathroom stand out, add mirrors! This not only accents the color, but adds dimension to the room.
