Crime in the Colorado Area

Criminal news in Colorado has been booming this year so far. Here are some news stories that have caught many people's attention here.

Two soldiers from Fort Carson were arrested as suspects regarding a June 2008 double homicide. Jomar Dionisio Falu-Vives (24) and Rudolfo Torres-Gandarilla (20), both active in the Army have been arrested and are suspects in the death of 18 year-old Amairany Cervantes (18) and Cesar Javier Ramirez (21). The two victims had been shot while hanging garage sale signs at an intersection. According to the Colorado Springs Police Department, both men had already been in custody pending charges that they had allegedly shot another soldier, Zachary Szody, as he walked along a street in the Springs. Falu-Vives is being charges with first-degree murder, while Gandarilla is being charged with accessory to first degree murder. No other information has been released.

Mount St. Francis a retreat that is solely taken care of by the Sister of Saint Francis of Perpetual Adoration has been conned by one of their employees in the facility department. Richard Ramirez (not the serial killer) has been arrested for allegedly stealing $3,500 in a 10 week period. Pending an investigation as to why Ramirez who have taken the money is in the works. If convicted Ramirez could face serious jail time.

A 28 year-old woman in Colorado Springs has reported that a police officer who pulled her over for speeding had allegedly ignored accusations that she had been bound, raped and beaten. According to the alleged victim, she had been speeding only because she was trying to get to Pikes Peak Mental Health Center to receive treatment for her noticeable injuries. Instead of offering assistance, the victim states that the police officer just sited her with a ticket for no seat belt and driving 45 in a 25 mph zone. Authorities do however have statements from personnel at the hospital regarding that the victim did indeed need to be treated on the date that she received the ticket from the officer. No charges or suspension has been given until further investigation of the incident. On the brighter side the victims court appearance has been postponed until further notice.

A decorated Fort Carson soldier who pleaded guilty to sexual assault, assault and burglary, has been sentenced to 25 years to life. The judge who sent down the sentence told Brandon David Allen that the crime he had committed was "as bad as it gets". According to Allen he still does not remember the incident in which he broke into a woman's home while her husband was away and sexually assaulted her. The soldier was apprehended two months later in Kentucky. While at the trial, the victim told the judge that she struggles everyday and night just being in her home since the attack.

Last but not least...

An off duty Colorado Springs police officer, shot a pit bull on Tuesday stating that the dog was trying to attack him. The police officer stated that while in a parking lot he noticed the pit pull and another dog acting aggressively towards a woman and her child. He then started to distract the pit bull and the other dog. Once the officer brought the attention on to him, the dogs allegedly started to attack. The officer then shot the pit bull in the head and the two dogs ran off. The Humane Society was called, but do not know who the owners of the dogs are.

More to come soon .......

Springs sounds kind of rough lately. Denver was getting old real fast, so taking Bob Seger's advice, I got out of Denver. I'm in a semi-rural setting for the time being. It's a lot mellower where I am now. Thanks for reminding me what it can get like back the in CO, and for a great article.

That crime where the guy says he broke into a home, assaulted someone....yet doesn't remember it is extremely strange. Thanks for the updates and collection of crime incidents.
