April 22 is Earth Day. This is day where a person can show their appreciation towards the environment and give back to the earth. One can plant a tree or attend an Earth Day event. In Colorado, there are numerous events around the state that residents can pledge their dedication to save planet earth.

You can enjoy nature and celebrate Earth Day at the Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The whole family can have fun for FREE on April 16th. Garden of the Gods will be open from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM rain or shine. There will be lots of fun activities throughout the day. You can chip in and help clean up the park making it more breathe taking than it already is. Kids can create arts and crafts all day. There are wolves and birds that can be seen at the Raptor and Wildlife centers. These are only a few fun things to do at the Garden of the Gods. If you want to spend the day in the mountains on Earth Day, Pikes Peak annual community event is on April 16th from 10 AM to 3 PM at Doherty High School. There will be activities for kids, exhibits, workshops, food, entertainment and more! Everything at the Pikes Peak celebration is geared toward celebrating people and the planet. Spend Earth Day at the Denver Zoo on Friday, April 22 from 10 AM to 1 PM, they are having a party for the planet. You can learn about what Colorado students are doing to help save Earth. All activities on this day are FREE with admission. During your visit you can see how the gorillas are doing and if there are any newborns at the infant house. There are enormous fish and numerous types of snakes to ooh and aah at in the Tropical Discovery area. While celebrating Earth Day at the Denver Zoo, you can feed the seals and catch different animal shows. Visit the Denver Zoo website for directions and Earth Day celebration details.

The University of Northern Colorado (UNC) is having an Earth Day week from April 18th to the 22nd. This week long event will showcase UNC's efforts to save the earth. If you think you are a strong man or woman, you can participate in the UNC Earth Week strongman/woman competition. On Friday, April 22nd, the Sustainability Fair will be from 11 AM to 2 PM. There will be live student bands, information on UNC recycling information, and booths with local artists and businesses. The Waste Art Project will be on display all week for attendees to enjoy. 2011 Denver Earth Day Fair is on Thursday, April 22 from 10 AM to 2:00 PM at the Civic Center Park on the West lawn off Bannock street. There will be many activities at the fair to participate in. You can learn how to use newspapers to start seedlings. If you have been thinking about adding a pet to your life, there will be adoptable animals supplied by the Denver Municipal Animal Shelter. A tree cookie will be available for all to decorate. There will be FREE samples of vegan certified products. Bring your donations, too!
