Colorado Rapids Pre-Season Match 1 Report

Colorado is Up and Running

The Colorado Rapids are currently in pre-season training in Phoenix, and Tuesday, they had their first pre-season match of 2010 against Columbus Crew, and walked away with a 1-1 Draw.

The scoring started right away with Columbus opening the scoring in just the 4th Minute! Steven Lenhart received a nice through pass that left him one on one with Rapids Goalkeeper Matt Pickens, and converted it to give the Crew a 1-0 lead.

The Rapids were able to equalize in the 19th Minute when Colorado's new signing Wells Thompson found a ton of open space and took it to the goal. Crew Goalkeeper William Hesmer had a poorly timed sliding tackle on Thompso and conceded a Goal Kick. Omar Cummings stepped up to the spot and buried it, bringing the game level.

That was it for the scoring in the game, but there were a lot of other things in the game that spoke of the true spirit of Pre-Season. The start of the Second Half saw Colorado bring on Six Substitutes, which is obviously something that cannot happen during the season, but it gave them a chance to take a look at some of the newer and younger talent. They were also able to give a few trialists a chance to prove themselves.

Colorado has a long road in front of them this year, but they look to be in a great starting place and look very good for where they are at the start of the pre-season. They cannot rest on their Laurels though as Wednesday, the take on the LA Galaxy in another pre-season match-up at the Casa Grande Performance Institute in Arizona.

Rapids Lineup - 1st Half: Matt Pickens, Rob Valentino, Julien Baudet, Oscar Murrilo, Drew Moor, Wells Thompson, Ross LaBauex, Nick LaBrocca, Jamie Smith, Omar Cummings, Devon Hodges

Tonight, they get their chance against El Salvador in Tampa, FL.
