Colorado Reps Diana DeGette & Jared Polis Vote Not to Lift Funding for ACORN

Last week the US House of Representatives voted to ban funding for ACORN after several undercover video tapes were released in which ACORN workers are seen urging illegal activities. The vote was a whopping 345 for and 75 against. The Senate voted to bar funding to ACORN by a vote of 83 for and 7 against. You would have thought that any congressman or congresswoman would protect their tax paying constitutes hard earned tax dollars by refusing to provide any further funding to an organization that promotes illegal activities. Evidently this isn't the case with Diana DeGette and Jared Polis, two house representatives from Colorado.

Activist group ACORN started in 1970 to help the poor in Arkansas and quickly went national, growing into a multimillion-dollar conglomerate. In the past few months ACORN has come under increased scrutiny for various improprieties. The founder's brother is accused of embezzling 1 million dollars from the organization. ACORN employees are charged with voter registration fraud and even had the audacity to think they could get away with signing up cartoon character Mickey Mouse to vote. The videos recently released to the public showed ACORN employees in Brooklyn, N.Y., advising a couple posing as a prostitute and pimp to lie to get housing aid, and employees in other cities counseling the pair on tax, banking and immigration issues.

A July report by Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., a member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, said ACORN had received more than $53 million in federal money since 1994. HUD said this past week that it has given ACORN roughly $42 million since the 2000 budget year.

I don't care on which side of the political fence you sit on whether Democrat or Republican this organization should not get one more penny of our taxes. Most of our Colorado Congress members feel the same way as they all voted to block any more funding to ACORN. The question posed is then why did DeGette and Polis vote NO? It make you wonder why Polis and DeGette think it is OK to give this organization our tax dollars when it's obvious they are not always on the up and up. Do Jared and Dianna have an undisclosed stake in ACORN? Do they owe ACORN for backing them in the past elections? What could possibly be the reason for voting against cutting off tax payer funding to this organization?

Even President Obama stated there needs to be an investigation into ACORN's activities yet two of the elected officials from Colorado evidently think ACORN did not do enough wrong to warrant having their Government hand out stopped.

To the citizens of Colorado, wake up! We need answers from Polis and DeGette and we need them now! If they refuse to provide them, let's send them back to Boulder and Denver where they belong. It's time to stop our elected officials from throwing away our money on corrupt organizations and policies that only benefit the politicians.
