ColorOfChange.Org Begins Petition Aimed at Fox News Owner Rupert Murdoch
Petition Claims Fox News Responsible for Race-baiting
On July, 2009, Glenn Beck said on the show Fox and Friends that President Obama "has a deep-seated hatred for white people or white culture" and later added, "This guy is, I believe, a racist."
The comments sparked a flurry of condemnations and accusations of race-baiting in the media and blogosphere.
In response to Glenn Beck's comments, the organization Color Of Change started an online petition aimed at the sponsors of Glenn Beck's daytime Fox News show. Color Of Change is a web-based organization founded by James Rucker and Anthony Van Jones, which is dedicated to "strengthening Black America's political voice."
The petition was surprisingly successful, causing, at present, 81 companies to drop their support of Glenn Beck's television program.
Although Color Of Change dealt a blow to Glenn Beck's wallet, his rating are still as high as ever. This has not discouraged Color Of Change efforts, though.
On November 6, the owner of Fox News, Rupert Murdoch, defended Glenn Beck, saying "If you actually assess what he was talking about, he was right." On November 10, though, Rupert Murdoch appeared to distance himself from Glenn Beck's comments, claiming he did not share the same opinion as Glenn Beck or believe that President Obama is a racist.
In response to this, Color Of Change has started a new petition demanding Rupert Murdoch clarify his views. The petition claims that "Fox News, under your leadership, has had a long, deep history of engaging in inflammatory racial rhetoric: attacking black leaders, black culture, and black institutions," including the defense of Glenn Beck. The petition then goes on to ask what Rupert Murdoch plans to do about this.
More information about the petition can be found at ColorOfChange.org.

Beck repeated what a psychiatrist named Keith Ablow said on the show. It was not his opinion.
