Color-Treated Hair? Try Pantene Color Preserve and Shine Shampoo, Conditioner and Treatment

Product Review of Pantene

L. Lee Scott
It's no secret to anyone who knows me that I color my hair and have done so for more years than I care to admit. When I was offered the opportunity to try Pantene shampoo, conditioner and nourishing treatment for color-treated hair, I was ready to give it a try (particularly when you compare Pantene prices to salon shampoo prices).

The Pantene shampoo and conditioner are called "Color Preserve Shine." They have a light, fresh fragrance that doesn't stick around after rinsing. The shampoo felt soft and moisturizing in my hands, and even more so as I worked it through my hair. When I rinsed it out, my hair felt softer than it had before I shampooed.

My next step was the conditioner. It, too, felt luxuriously moisturizing on my hands, and following the instructions, I "massaged into wet hair after shampooing" and combed it "through with fingers along the length of [my] hair, paying particular attention to ends." Typically, I leave conditioner in for the remainder of my shower, but on this first use, I decided to rinse out the Pantene conditioner and try their treatment.

The Color Hair Solutions treatment from Pantene is a Color Nourishing Treatment. They suggest, on the package, that it be used weekly "to help seal in color and enhance shine" for hair that has been artificially colored. I worked a fairly small amount through my hair, and left it there while I washed the rest of me, and rinsed it out before turning off the water.

For me, the real test of the Pantene Color Preserve Shine came after I left the shower. How would it look after I dried and styled it? I use my blow-dryer at its lowest setting, since I am aware that heat is bad for healthy hair, so it's even more damaging to color-treated or permed hair. The drying time was the same as usual, and I was able to style my hair with no trouble.

I was very pleased with the shine that the Pantene products gave my hair, and how soft my hair felt after drying and styling. Without using it for at least two weeks, I won't know how well it will preserve my color, but if the preservation works as well as the shine component, I'm sure I'll be pleased with that, as well.

If anyone asked me about Pantene products for color-treated hair, I would have no problem recommending the Color Preserve Shine Shampoo and Conditioner and the weekly Color Nourishing Treatment.

  • Pantene created Color Preserve and Shine for color-treated hair.
  • Pantene's Color Nourishing Treatment should be used weekly after shampooing and conditioning.
  • Pantene's Color Preserve and Shine shampoo and conditioner are gentle enough for permed hair too.
I felt that the Pantent Color Preserve and Shine left my hair clean without drying it out; my hair felt soft and looked shiny.

I've never colored my hair, and I haven't permed it in thirty years [g].

I've always thought people who did so were awfully brave (but that may have more to do with winding up looking like a poodle after my last perm).
