Craigslist.org is a very easy site to use. There are no ads to shuffle through, the site is actually rather boring, but it's not about looks, it's about finding that perfect item and a perfect price. You can look through categories from items to buy or jobs available to personal ads and even a category called Rants and Raves where you can rave about anything you want.
I have bought items from the Columbia, Mo Craigslist. My first purchase was a waterstand, and an antique bench and barrel chair. I just emailed the seller and we set up a time for me to pick up the items. Generally, cash is the only accepted form of payment for items on Craigslist. This makes things easier for everyone.
Furniture is my favorite category to look at on Craigslist. You may be surprised at the quality of furniture for sale. It is not uncommon to see brand new furniture for sale for very little money because someone has to move town quickly or needs some extra cash. There is also a free category in which it is easy to find free furniture as well as other items.
I have never had a bad experience dealing with someone from Craigslist but I have friends who have become frustrated using it. If you keep emailing someone and they do not email you back then give up. Either they sold the piece or changed their mind. If you are selling something on Craigslist, never take money orders from someone who wants to give you extra money to ship the item to them, especially out of the country. This is a scam and you will lose money. If they really wanted something they could go on ebay which is for everyone whereas Craigslist is meant to be for local exchanges only.
While Craigslist is a fun site to visit and buy or sell from it is important to follow some safety rules when dealing with people you do not know, especially if you are a woman. Often, people are willing to meet you somewhere public to exchange an item for money. This is especially good if you do not wish people to know where you live.
If you are going to someone's house to buy or sell an item always inform someone of where you are going and give the address and name of the person you are going to meet. The safest way would be if you can take a friend or family member with you. Not only will you feel more comfortable if you have someone along but they can also help you carry that antique bench!
If you follow general safety precautions then you will most like enjoy using the Columbia, Mo Craigslist or the Craigslist for your town.

Post a CommentHear so many talking about craigs List. Have tried to use it and cannot get into it to see anything for sale. Not good at using a computer. Would sell items and buy items but don't know how.
Esther- You can honestly try to sell all of these things on craigslist. Just visit craigslist.org and click on the Missouri link then click on the columbia/Jefferson City link. You just have to set up an account (it's free) and place your items in the appropriate category. As items can quickly get lost I would suggest deleting the old ad and adding a new one every few days. And, as always, try and have someone with you when people come to look at or purchase your items for safety. My deepest sympathies on the loss of your husband.
