Combat Eating in Iraq

WRITER
Ever wonder what is going on behind the kitchen in Iraq? One day I decided that I wanted to know the answer. So I packed up my luggage and obtained a job working in Iraq in Food Service. As I made my long journey to Iraq all my curiosity started to grow even bigger. I was caught asking myself questions like: What are the soldiers eating? Where are they eating? How many times a day do they get to eat? Here is a first hand look at the truth behind the scene at the war zone.

I don't know about anything else, but I can say the soldiers are never hungry here. The DFAC (Dining Facility) has a diverse menu which rotates ever month. It is not only the food that makes the DFAC an enjoyable visit. However, the incredible touch on the decorations and friendly staff will welcome your stay. There are many TVs, movies, and music playing throughout the DFAC every meal. You are able to eat four times a day which includes breakfast, lunch, dinner, and midnight.

I have had my nephew and several friends over at Iraq, none of them ate this well.. I wish they would have been stationed where ever it was you was at.. David just got back a couple weeks ago.. and will be leaving again soon.. I don't think I will share with him that somewhere over there they are eating way better then he has been.. I am glad some of our soliders are getting decent meals though!

Interesting article about one aspect of combat eating. I'm sure everyone over there is not eating this type of stuff though.

You neglect to mention that a LOT of our soldiers are out on missions, and eating MREs. And the food in the chow hall is not *always* good. I remember lots of times while I was overseas that we had no fresh fruit or veggies. And on steak and shrimp night, if you weren't one of the first 150 people (out of many thousands) to get to the chow hall once they opened, you were eating hamburgers or chicken sandwiches. I lost 23 pounds while I was gone. This is a good topic though.

Big fat Hairy deal...signing up for the food? Got to kidding me...Unless you want to be signing up to donate your organs then forget them all and don't mess around with armies. The patriot act has had the cream filling removed and be far from compatriot now. The United nations and worlds wealthiest families wet dream be that everybody be a soldier and only they get to eat and not the rest of the world!!! The veggies and fruits grown on someone's own farm taste best. Remember delicious foods not many times healthy...um duh mkay....And energy does not be without enzymes added so bones etc. don't get leached.

Lobsters are plain and taste like balls of pig fat. Please get some taste skills before signing up. The reason they get lobster be since that's sh*ts actually super cheap and easy prey to get but them some b*tch spikes the prices. Remember tat the nineteen thirties no one ate lobster and doing so was considered for the poor. The poor all brought their own lobster sandwiches to their jobs. Spike a price and get me laughing.

Have to laugh at myself here. When I first read the headline I thought of combat as a verb and wondered where you were coming from... :) But turns out you are NOT trying to starve the Iraqis I'm happy to discover. This is such an unusual topic; I love it.
