Combine Tapping & Reiki: Using Emotional Freedom Technique to Enhance Energy Work

Tameko Barnette
As many of you have read in my previous articles, I have been a Reiki practitioner since 2004. During the past several years, I have enjoyed a healthy and fun journey with Reiki. One thing I love about this healing journey is when I learn about other healing modalities and use the opportunity to combine it with Reiki. The intent is always the same when I do this sort of thing; I am trying to enhance the self-treatment experience.

In 2008, I learned about EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) or Tapping from a chiropractor I was seeing at the time. I had mentioned to him that I was afraid of dogs. He handed me a paper with an illustration of the tapping points and what to recite as I tapped on those points. The doctor was kind enough to demonstrate on his own face as well.

I have to admit out of all the healing modalities I had heard of and had learned myself over the years, EFT felt weird to me in the beginning. I worked with the information the chiropractor had given me for about a day or two. After that, I left it alone. I didn't see how it was truly helping me at all.

It's funny how things come back around to us on our journeys of self-discovery. In 2011, I was sent an e-mail from a dear friend about EFT and how much it has helped her through some issues. She highly recommended that all of her friends give it a try. I thought it was quite interesting that it would come back around to me. But it was perfect timing. I decided to give it a try again.

This time I employed You Tube videos to give me some good ideas on how to tap for specific issues, such as healing money karma, forgiveness and compassion, and releasing fears. One of the things I noticed this time around that I didn't grasp in 2008 was that the changes I experienced as a result of EFT were subtle. But I did experience results!

Quite often, we tend to discredit the healing quality of a modality if the quantity of its results aren't showing up instantaneously and glaringly obvious. In other words, it's like we need a brick to fall on our heads. Yet, we shouldn't discount the subtle changes. For example, when I was tapping in 2008 for releasing fears, whether it was about dogs or people and issues going on in my life. I did notice small differences in my attitude towards the people or pets I feared or situations I felt uncomfortable within. I was more at ease. I wasn't completely over it. But I was getting there. I was even guided to more resources to help with the issue.

This year when I was reintroduced to EFT I immediately got the idea to combine it with Reiki. For all you Reiki practitioners out there, all you have to do is activate your energy the way you usually do, whether that is using your symbols in the palms of your hands or simply holding the intention to be activated.

Once you activate the Reiki energy, then start your tapping session. I have found that these two modalities together are pretty powerful. In addition, you can give yourself a self-treatment before or after your tapping session as a nice way to combine both modalities.

Reiki is so popular these days. We all know the wonderful benefits of using such a lovely healing modality. No matter what other modality I learn, I am combining it with Reiki because I have found that Reiki is a great compliment to any healing treatment.
