In 2000, to celebrate the new century, our little town decided to have a party, and do it in a big way. Everyone had so much fun, they've kept doing it every year since, and it's become a tradition.

The two main streets of town are closed off, and booths are set up to house carnival-type games, food and drinks, and home-made wares for all to enjoy. A huge tent is set up just south of Pine, our main street, on E Street, and everyone who wants can go in and dance to their heart's content.

At nine, we have our version of the Doo-Dah Parade, with our local organizations, businesses, and just plain folks dressing up and sashaying down Pine Street in their own creative ways. It is always fun to see just what these folks think up each year, whether it's the every-day synchronized lawn chair brigade, the latest version of a kazoo "band", or some other not-so-professional type of entertainment.

It culminates at midnight with a fireworks display put on by the Lions Club, the same ones that have been providing the only free 4th of July fireworks show in the Central Valley for....well, over fifty years that I know of. Everyone, from the youngest to the oldest, has a great time at our New Year's celebration, and it's a safe, fun alternative to staying home or going out and getting blasted while the kiddies sleep the night away.

If you live close enough to our town, come on over and celebrate with us, and bring Granny and the kids with you. You'll all have a wonderful time.
