"Okay, sounds great! But where should we go?"
Some of the best sailing destinations are the Caribbean, the Mediterranean, Greece, Hawaii and the Bahamas. These are world-famous for their crystal-clear water, gorgeous coral reefs, ancient trade routes and sight-seeing tourist attractions. Most travel agencies offer a wide selection of brochures explaining the details of each destination. This is the best place to start planning your trip.
"What type of sailboats are best for us?"
Once you've decided on a place to go, you'll need to pick what you're going to do. Do you want to plan out the trip, and have activities all the time, or do you want to lounge around all day? Well, there are great sailing options for both. Basically, there are two major types of sailboats. One is designed for people with sailing experience, and the other is for people who haven't actually sailed before. Crewed boats are for the inexperienced, because, as the name suggests, they come with a crew to man the boat for the tourists. This option is more expensive, but is does take the 'stress' out of the trip for the less experienced traveler. Imagine laying on a sailboat, not having to worry about doing anything. The crew will take care of everything for you. Not your cup of tea? Then try your hand at a sailboat rental without a crew. You can sometimes take short classes to be able to rent a boat and drive yourself, depending on the place. Either way, you'll have a great time.
"So, what can I do on a sailing vacation?"
You can do anything from simply laying out with a refreshing drink by your side and your favorite book, to snorkeling, fishing and island-hopping. Many people take their children scuba diving as well. It is also common for larger sailboats like Catamarans to have their own kitchens, lounge bars and gear for adventure such as scuba diving equipment, fishing gear, binoculars, underwater cages and more. It is a great opportunity to take some incredible pictures of your family, and you'll have a sensational time. There are plenty of resorts with sailing packages available, and a quick stop by your local travel agent or a look online can make the next vacation you go on the best of your life! Enjoy...
