Come to New York for a Fishing Summer Escape Weekend

Regina Sass
Fishing makes for a great summer weekend escape, just you, you fishing pole and hopefully a lot of fish. New York State has all kinds of fishing, river, lake and ocean, so whatever you are after you will catch it somewhere in New York. Some of the fishing spots are remote, and some are very popular. For instance, if you choose the lakes or the river, you will probably be by yourself, in a boat or sitting on the river bank, with no one else withing shouting distance, but if you choose the ocean fishing boats, you will have plenty of company, and sometimes that is what you want. After all, you don't have to be in the wilderness to have a summer escape weekend. An escape can be whatever you want it to be, a summer weekend by yourself, or a summer weekend to make new friends, you will still have an escape from everyday life.

Lakes Lamoka and Waneta are located in the town of Tyrone, Schuyler County New York. Tyrone is a town of about 7,000 year long residents, a little more than 60 miles from Rochester. A perfect place for a summer escape weekend, to get away from the crowds. Both lakes have boat launch ramps and they are connected by a narrow canal. You can catch Small Mouth and Big Mouth Bass, Chain Pickerel, Bluegill and many more. Some of the fish caught in these lakes have included a 41 inch muskie and some 22 inch small mouth bass. Check out their site for up to day info on the fishing and on what lodging is avaialable in the area. It is not far from the wine producing area of the New York Finger Lakes, so you can go and get the best wine to have with your best fish.

If you like river trout fishing come over to the New York/Vermont border and fish the Battenkill for your summer escape weekend. There are campgrounds and plenty of local Bed and Breakfasts throughout the whole area. The Battenkill rises in Vermont, parallels the border, then flows west to join up with the Hudson. It is known for some of the best fly fishing to be found anywhere, not only in New York. Come up to Washington County New York, and hour north east of Albany for some of the best fishing and camping.

Long Island, practically the entire length of it, will give you some great bay and ocean fishing experiences for your summer escape weekend. As will some places right in NYC. Charter boats go out from Sheephead's Bay in Brooklyn, Great Kills Harbor on Staten Island, City Island in the Bronx, And Breezy Point on the Rockaway Peninsula and out in Nassau and Suffolk Countries, boat leave from Freeport, Montauk, Fire Island, Bayshore and the Hamptons. You name the fish and one of the boats will be going out for it. Some of the best bluefish come from these waters.
