Comedians Really Get No Respect, and the Grammy Goes to HBO

Roger
I have never heard of these two guys from the Land Down Under that have the show on HBO, the Distant Future, but I take it that they must be really good since they are on TV. It comes as a surprise to me that they would take home the Grammy for Best Comedy Album over hard-working and talented comics George Lopez, Lisa Lampanelli, Steven Wright and Harry Shearer. People don't realize that doing comedy takes a lot of time, patience, re-writing and re-working to finally come up with one punch line or something clever that can pass as being a little bit funny. The efforts of humorous people go unnoticed which should be seen as a reflection of society where substance and personal points of view doesn't count anymore.

So what can comedians do to get the respect that they deserve? Some of these suggestions come straight from a former stand-up comedy manager of mine:

  • Make sure every joke has a punch line with a running gag of Wal Mart.
  • Write jokes about shopping at Wal Mart.
  • Wear a yellow smiley face sticker while telling jokes about Wal Mart.
  • Write jokes about going to work sick enough to throw up on people.
  • Tell jokes about not having enough money for groceries because your credit card got declined.
  • Sing songs about how great it is to be a bimbo and that everybody should be a bimbo too.
  • Write jokes about getting robbed or raped by an African-American male in his 20s.
  • Tell jokes about how much homeless people are a nuisance to society.
  • Make fun of the Chinese because they really can put pee-pee in your coke.
  • Preten to be a retard that sells light bulbs on late-night television infomercials.
