Comfort Zone Diffuser with Feliway Plug-In - Product Review

Julie Wenzel
This is one of those products I can't blame anyone to be skeptical of. Comfort Zone with Feliway Plug-In is made with synthetic feline facial pheromones to calm cats in many stressful situations. Some people use it in attempts to end urine markings and scratching that cats sometimes do. Others use it to calm a cat in a new environment or situation. I tried using it for another reason.

Why I Tried the Product: My cat Kenji is a jumpy cat. He hides under the bed when startled and runs away from strangers. But that wasn't the real problem. The problem was, he always picked on my other cat Sadie. Now the two seemingly like each other from time to time. They touch noses, sleep inches from each other, and can happily share food, water bowl, and litter box. Never are they really territorial over any of it.

Kenji just seemed to get this pent up frustration in him and he would take it out on Sadie. He plays a lot, so I don't think he just doesn't know what to do with his energy. He is also a healthy cat so I doubted any health issues were the cause of his attacks. But there were times I just couldn't even sleep at night because it was constant picking at each other.

I had to try something.

How To Use It:
It's simple. All you do is insert the refillable bottle into the plug-in and plug it into an electrical outlet just like you would with any of the other scented plug-ins. I always tell people, "It's like a Glade Plug-in for cats". However, there is absolutely no smell from this. Only your cat will notice it. When you run out, you simply buy refills and replace the bottle.

Price: The initial cost for me to start this up was very expensive I thought, although worth it. However, I found that looking for deals online is much better than buying this in the store. I paid for about $50 in the store, but later I found it online for $18. The refills in the store are about $28, but again online (amazon.com) they were $12. So the prices can really vary so try looking for a good deal since you will need to fill replacements monthly. Also, if you have a large home you will need more than one plug-in. I only bought one since I have a smaller apartment.

How It Worked For Me: I actually noticed a difference in my cat's behavior within two hours. My cat was lounging around like a lazy guy. He was cooing, purring, and rolling on his back for a tummy rub. And for the first time, I slept through the night. There were no fights.

I really don't know why my male cat responded so well to this. For every cat it is different, so like the price, the results will vary.

I could also tell when I was running out. My cat's aggressive mood started to come back. It's almost like he's lacking his own pheromones to feel safe and secure, and so the artificial ones provided by this plug-in help him.

He's a happier kitty with Comfort Zone. And with one happy kitty, there's two happy kitties, and a happy owner who can sleep at night.

Kenji just seems more chipper, relaxed, and easy going. I couldn't be more happy with this product. The only thing I wish was that I didn't have to replace it every month. But it's a small price to pay in the end.

Sadly I tried Feliway for two months with absolutely no success in curbing one of my cats bad behavior. Oddly enough he seemed to actually start behaving better after I finally unplugged the darn things and stopped buying the refills. So definitely mileage may vary with this stuff.
