My Flesh is cool is the story of Evan Knox professional hit man who has never made a hit. The trick-he has everyone else do the hitting; with the help of a drug apparently made by some old dude in the middle of nowhere. Evan can, after injecting the stuff in his brain via the nose, take over other people with no limits on distance. So while Evan takes in a western at the local cinema miles away, he's really pumping someone full of lead.
The story starts with a standard hit some fat mob guy in a pool with beautiful women around. Trick is one of those women is Evan. Killing the boss with one of the guards own weapons Evan gets away without anyone knowing it was him how could they it was the bimbo...
Cut to Evan resting in the comfort of his apartment with his beautiful girlfriend Isela. They shag and he feeds her a lie about his strange father sending him money. The money really comes from some woman named Rebecca who arranges the targets for whatever reason. While he's talking to her on the phone in the body of a homeless man a strike team comes to take him out. Although no hit man can be an aging homeless man.
He switches into the body of Rebecca's right hand man and tells her there is a leak in her operation because people were after him, either she plugs it or they can't work together any more. Now she knows that Knox can switch into other people.
Evan rushes home and tells Isela, sounds like when you sneeze doesn't it, they need to hit the road and she can be either with him or without him, but he hopes it's with. Isn't that romantic in a corny over done sort of way?
Evan, dumber than pig shit, still feels the need to work for Rebecca even though there is something wrong with her operation. He got a target right before the strike team scared the shit out of a poor homeless man. This is a personal favorite of the issue he is suppose to kill a senator who we see blasting homosexuality. Evan who is a bastard puts on a show it typical bastard fashion. He has the senator jump the bones of some unsuspecting woman on stage on live television. Rebecca thinks that's just dandy then goes off to kill him.
Evan and Isela arrive at the home of some old dude where Evan, "Was made possible." Evan tells old dude that the lab where they make the drug isn't safe and they should move it. Just the Rebecca's chopper arrives and Evan think Isela sold him out because no one, but him knew where they were going. He does what any man would do without having a single solid fact-he blows her brains out.
Rebecca, the business woman she is, I guess I dunno it's never stated what it is she does, nasty stuff is all I can tell, decides the needle to the brain would make a wonderful street drug titled "Go". Evan the assassin he is expresses concern for the lives that could be lost if normal people had access to the drug. This is a guy who kills people and frames others, has members of congress trying the sushi platter on national TV, and just blew out the brains of his love because he had a hunch. This is our moral compass this man speaks for the people?
Rebecca then shares the information that if Evan could kill Rebecca he would, but for some reason he can't and doesn't and gets a fucking hole in the chest. Evan no floating in the lake shares his final thoughts with us which happen to be the same as when he shoots up the drug.
The comic has a lot of wonderful ideas or really puts a spin on old ones, but other things come up as trite or just lame. The unoriginal villain for one how often is someone evil for no reason or you're just not sure how being evil helps them at all. The villain's ability to just know stuff is getting old too. There was know way she could have known where Evan was going yet she was able to get there with no problem and know what is created there. Why steal this drug when you can already read minds?
The black and white art is great and very high for the standards of black and white, but the women don't seem real. The men all look very natural, but the women all look like centerfolds; always posing in some sexual position wearing tight fitting clothing or hardly any.
The Character Evan Knox is a bastard he's really only worried about himself, but it's written in a way where the selfish bastard in all of us can relate and find humor in what he's doing. It doesn't help that he is one of the dumbest men alive. His logic in killing his girlfriend is he told no one where he was going...not even her stupid. You had been there minutes and she hadn't contacted anyone because if she has you would have seen it.
If you like great art, who doesn't, and some interesting ideas My Flesh is Cool is a fun read, but don't expect to be blow away. As for subscribing to it this issue would always remain at the bottom of your box until there was nothing else you could buy. I'd read it if it were free, but otherwise save your money.
