Doom 2099 Issue 1

Eric Jackson
It's the year 2099 and the future has progressed as we all guessed, more of the same in a worse way. Corporations have taken over countries and run them as such. The cyber age is at it's peak with people being about to enter computer mentally. This can get you in trouble though if the information is supposed to be secret.

O! For a Muse of fire, that would ascend

The brightest heaven of invention;

A Kingdom for a stage, princes to act

And monarchs to behold the swelling scene. -Shakespeare, Henry V

This brings us to young Wire and Xandra to gypsies dealing in the only market around-the black market. Latveria has grown much since the time of Doom it's just like any major city now. It's police force are always harassing the gypsies population, some things never change.

The cops come in a hovering robot ship and try to arrest Wire. Wire hopes to loose them in the ruins of the fallen Castle Doom. Guess who appears in Terminator fashion, ball of burning light, Dr. Doom. He pissed and blows the cops away with little effort. After talking to Wire and Xandra learns the state of his nation and doesn't like that one bit. So just like the doom he is walks straight into the office of the current leader and tells him to get out.

The current C.E.O. Tiger Wylde and cyborg that looks like a tiger. Doom scares him a bit, but his suit is outdated and Tiger fucks his whole world up. Watching the battle is a gypsy who reads Taro Cards for Tiger. Reading the cards during the battle she learns that this Doom is going to shift the balance of power.

She takes the defeated Doom to her peoples camp and they form a plan. They will work together to take out Wylde only because he is their common foe. To do so they will need Doom, or to turn this guy whoever he is into Doom. At the Cyber-Neurologic Lab Doom offers the Neurosurgeons a deal; make me Doom and we'll let you out of this place. In the future jobs are just like indentured servitude. They agree and if the operation doesn't kill him or drive him mad then everything will be cool.

It works and Doom is Hella awesome.

The art is on point for early 90s stuff. It all seems to have the same look, but this stuff is fun to read. Some full page shots are really cool because they really show how pissed Doom is. The writing is standard super hero writing now much depth, but it's in no way bad. It gets the story along and it's only the first issue it pick up. The plot is great because it's Doom only this time around he can win because none of the 2099 heroes are any good so he can just walk over them. The only reason for him to loose in the past is because of the fans love of the other heroes. In real life Doom would crush them.
