Comic Book Review of Tyr

Eric Jackson
Before you read the review I ask that you read the caption that should go on the dusk jacket, cover, back, or wherever the praise for the book would be located:

"Man created the wheel, harnessed the power of fire, and landed on the moon. A man also wrote this book...oh and there are robots"

Now finally to the review of Tyr #2. The students of Anime Facial Reconstruction High oops I mean Randomly Vague Setting School, home of the Boring Setting. One of them is a personal leper and the rest are flat and useless. After a conversation with statements like this, "Yet, he doesn't seem all there. I don't know what though." I'm not taking this out of context either for some reason she says "don't know what though." No one asked her a question or asked to provide speculation. The phrase just doesn't make sense.

Elsewhere...usually means something totally unrelated and thin. Cult dudes hanging out doing cult things. "Is it that time." Good question I assumed they were going to watch the Simpson's until they stared talking about spells and summoning something. They never say what because that wouldn't be vague, it's all about vague here.

Back at the beach a few of the Plastic Surgery failures are having fun. Kate's reason for coming to the beach, "Tan my body up I guess." Yeah real people talk like this all the time. On my way to the can I often say, "Gonna go dump my load out." or while writing this review I said, "Criticize this comic up I guess." Then I guess really helps to make it worse. I wish people really spoke like this that way everyone listening would look liked they smell dog shit. It would be fun to watch.

The panel structures were really neat I've never seen anyone do them in this manner. He would just have the edge of the next page on the one you're looking at as its own panel. Then you would see after turning the page how it fit. I liked that a lot. The art, other than that wasn't anything to pop a boner over. A few times I had no idea what I was looking at.

There are no though bubbles or though captions/narration people just prattle on to themselves for little or no reason. This is all during an internal moment(s). I love how the artist would do a close up on the eyes for no reason. Sometimes things would be happening outside of the person's eyes we could be looking at, but all we get is eyes. The eyes never really relayed anything either because they always look the same. You can't tell if they're pissed or gassy, hard call.

Then out of nowhere there are robots. Most people assume this is bad. I think its wonderful giant 50s stomping robots. Had I been writing this I would have cut my losses and just said, "Fuck it, some giant robots crushing shit, can't hurt." Oh sorry I mean, "Fuck it, some giant robots crushing the city up I guess, can't hurt."

Then a demon...doesn't it seem odd that there are so many stories about a young man being part of some mystical bullshit foretold years before his birth. Like some half assed Jesus they are chosen usually to stop some evil bullshit. At first they can't come to terms with their destiny (Another bullshit word), but after prevailing to the greater good decide it is their duty to save the world. It's almost always the world; if I were the moon I'd be pissed. Why do they keep pumping this trite shit out it's so corny? Wonder if he's gonna save the world? How will he escape? Written as well as an Adam West Batman episode, at least that was fun to watch. Not saying this comic will do the lame savior bit, but if I were a betting man...
