Coming Up with Ideas to Write About

John Vann
It can be difficult to come up with a steady stream of ideas to write about, especially for the beginning writer. And it always seems that when your ideas are flowing clearly, you never have the time or the resources to write them down. Well with a few steps that are offered in this article, you can make the most of the ideas you do have, and even learn some tips at coming up with completely new and fresh ideas.

First, make sure to write every day. You've probably been hearing this all of your life, from English teachers and maybe even your parents, too - consistent writing is the key to improving, it really is true. Whether you just write a couple of sentences each day, a paragraph or two or even a whole short story or article, anybody who is serious about earning money for their writing should be writing something every single day.

Once you are in the habit of writing every day, it will become easier to sit down and write a complete article. You will also improve on your speed and accuracy, too, so you'll be able to finish your work much faster, and ultimately make more money.

You should always keep a small, handheld notebook and a pencil with you wherever you go, too. One can never be sure where they will draw the inspiration from for that next award winning article or great American novel. You'll want to make sure you can keep tracks of your thoughts and ideas as they come to you and while they are still fresh in your head.

Make sure to keep a journal beside your bed, too. Often time's dreams can spark inspiration for a great article or story - with paper ready you can quickly jot down these ideas before you forget them in the day's activities.

Also, set aside some time for a brainstorming session. Sit down with a piece of paper and a pencil (or in front of your computer, if you prefer) and just start writing down ideas. It doesn't matter if they are good ideas or not, and it doesn't matter if you even use them for an article or story. As long as you have some basic ideas written down, you can expand on them and come up with details later on.

The local news channel or newspaper is a great place for ideas, as well. Of course, you don't want to plagiarize anybody else's work or infringe on any copyrights, but often times local news reports only give a brief overview of a subject. You can do your own research on the topic and completely rewrite the article in your own words and with fresh material.
