Coming Out Can Cause Anxiety but These Party Songs Will Get You Through It!
If you have overcome your fears and have recently come out to friends and family, you are probably feeling a sense of relief. After relief usually comes the desire to celebrate your new freedom and acceptance. Why not have a coming out party? If a coming out party is what you want, I have 15 songs that should definitely be on your party playlist!
Coming Out Party Songs
"I'm Coming Out" by Diana Ross- This is the gay and lesbian coming out anthem! Miss Ross sings, "I'm coming out, I want the world to know, got to let it show". This will set the mood for your coming out party.
"I Will Survive" by Gloria Gaynor- It's important to know that you will survive coming out. Tell yourself, "I've got all my life to live and I've got all my love to give, I will survive"!
"We Are Family" by Sister Sledge- In case you don't know it, gays and lesbians often refer to other gays and lesbians as "family". In a way, when you come out you are joining a new family, even though you still get to keep your old family. This song inspires unity and it should be on your coming out party song list.
"I'm So Excited" by The Pointer Sisters- Coming out is an exciting time. You are giving yourself permission to live your truth and to share your happiness with others. If you are excited, put this Pointer Sisters song on and dance!
"Holiday" by Madonna- It's time to add a great Madonna tune to your song list. Madonna is a gay icon and this song sets a great mood for your coming out party. You should celebrate your coming out like a holiday, "It's time for the good times, forget about the bad times".
"It's Raining Men" by Weather Girls- Ok, so this is one that is definitely for the gay men, but it's a classic song that will get people dancing at your coming out party!
"I Kissed A Girl" by Katy Perry- If you are a woman coming out; this is a fun song to have at your party. Of course you can always go with a different "I kissed a girl" song by Jill Sobule. Either one will fit the coming out theme.
"I Gotta Feeling" by Black Eyed Peas- Your coming out party is a happy occasion and with songs like this one, it will be a good night!
"Strut" by Adam Lambert- This young gay pop star is out and proud and has a tremendous fan base. His voice and his songs are a great addition to any playlist. Strut encourages you to "start a revolution" and "let the freedom begin". Adam wants to see you strut at your coming out party and so do I.
"Fever" by Adam Lambert- A Lambert song that sings openly about watching the guy he is interested in and trying to get his attention. The song is full of attitude and innuendo and it will be a wonderful addition to your coming out party song list.
"She Wolf" by Shakira- "S.O.S she's in disguise, there's a She Wolf in disguise, coming out, coming out, coming out"! This sexy Shakira song will help you let your inner she wolf loose at your coming out party.
"Raise Your Glass" by Pink- Pink has been an advocate for the gay community from the beginning of her career. This song and video serve to enforce her support. These lyrics are perfect for your coming out party, "So raise your glass if you are wrong, in all the right ways, all my underdogs, we will never be anything but loud".
"Something To Talk About" by Bonnie Raitt- Believe me, your coming out will get tongues wagging, but those tongues were wagging long before you came out anyway! This song just fits and it thumbs its nose at the gossipers.
Two Slower Songs For Your Coming Out Party
"True Colors" by Cyndi Lauper- Cyndi has a gay sister and she penned this song for her and other gay men and women who are struggling for acceptance. It's beautiful and timeless and will remind you at your coming out party that people love you just as you are.
"Beautiful" by Christina Aguilera- A tremendous song and video that touches your heart and whispers to you, "You are beautiful, no matter what they say, words can't bring you down". After you come out, some people may take it upon themselves to judge you or say mean things. Remember this, "Those that mind, don't matter and those that matter, don't mind." If they are judging you, shame on them. Play this song at your coming out party and know that truly, you are beautiful.
I hope you enjoyed this article and the song selections. If you just came out, congratulations!
