George W. Bush is not a true conservative. He ran in 2000 on a true conservative agenda such as being for smaller government, having a non-interventionist policy, and ensuring personal liberty. However, it was all a charade. Once he got in office his team ratcheted up plans to attack Iraq, he expanded the role of government, and he supported policies allowing the government to spy on its own citizens.
Real conservatives or paleoconservatives are are few and far between in the US government. The only person I believe still represents these views is Texan congressman Ron Paul. At the time of this writing he is running for president of the United States. Anything that goes against the constitution he votes against.
The current president George W. Bush however represents a new ideology called neoconservatism. These people generally favor wars in the middle east and the inclusion of Judeo/Christian faith in foreign and public policy. They view the expansion of government as a way to increase their powre over the people. It is an ideology where the country is ultimately run by the government and not its citizens.
Withdrawing troops from Iraq:
As presidential candidate Ron Paul said, "We marched in and we can march right out". This is the simple fact of the matter. Violence in Iraq is largely continuing its momentum because US troops are occupying their land. It is insane to think that a way to end fighting is to fight some more.
The war in Iraq was thrusted among the American people based on lies, jingoistic pleas for "patriotism", and fear mongering directed at a largely fearful and uninformed populace. However, as the information age marches on, more Americans are dying, and the country is becoming insolvent due to the war's costs, people are waking up to the fact that their country has been hijacked by neocons. If they don't do something now to take their country back it may be too late.
The whole world was against the current invasion of Iraq and the US is behaving as a spoiled child, doing whatever it wants without regard for the consequences. The old dying media corporations continue to spew propaganda for the special interests. The last bastion of accurate information in on the internet such as sites like Helium and social networking sites. Just like the fall of the Berlin wall, the revolution did not happen because of a violent uprising but because of fax machines, cell phones, and other forms of modern communication to get the truth out to the people. We may be witnessing a similar happening before our very eyes in the United States.
