Commercial Diets: Why They Will Fail

Ward Tipton
There are a great number of commercial diets available on the market today and most of them have some really great marketing efforts behind them, promoting them quickly to the front of the shelf and into your life. Yet I ask you to think about one thing here. If all of these diets are as successful as the people marketing them claim they are, why do approximately ninety percent of the people who diet gain their weight back as soon as they finish losing the weight and return to their normal habits?

Is it their normal eating habits that are messed up and causing them to fail or is it the commercial diet plans that are fundamentally flawed and prevent the people from keeping those excess pounds off once they have been so painfully shed? The answer may surprise you. The fact is that it is most likely a combination of both factors that prevent you from losing weight and keeping it off. The commercial diets are sadly, not made with you in mind and unless you can understand the difference between what your body is telling you it needs and what you think it needs, that you also, are probably doing yourself as much harm as you are any good.

If everybody was exactly the same, commercial diet plans would probably work for everybody equally as well. It would also most likely be a very boring world as well. Fortunately, all of us are very different but this also means that we are going to have different needs as well. You cannot just jump into a car that somebody else, substantially taller or shorter than you has been driving, get in it and drive, until you have made some basic changes so that it fits you. Little things like the positions of the seat and the mirror may quite literally make the difference between life and death in that case.

While the results may not be quite so drastic and certainly not so immediate with dieting plans, they still have a very real effect on your personal health and well being. The reason that so many diets will fail is because they are short term answers for long term problems geared at people in general and not towards any one in particular. Additionally, you may also have to change some of your personal habits, even after you have reached your ideal weight and you are ready to get on with your life normally.

Once you have reached your weight loss goals and you are ready to begin your life anew, you should still be prepared to make some changes in your personal eating habits as well. The key is in learning what you need more than paying attention to what you want. The human body is a truly remarkable machine and believe it or not, it will tell you everything that it needs. All you have to do is to learn to pay attention to what your body tells you and know how to understand what it is saying and you can keep those unwanted pounds off forever.
