Commercials from Our Childhoods..

Tina Marie
When I was growing up there were a lot of really neat commercials on TV...ones that I miss seeing these days. Of course with the technology we have today these old ones would seem to be dinosaurs compared to the new ones but I still miss them. I can remember as a kid riding my back and singing the jingles at the top of my lungs. Some took a little time to learn but others were pretty simple. A lot of the commercials were for things that we used everyday and we loved reciting the jingles while enjoying it...like the Kool-Aid. Looking back the parents probably got tired of hearing them, but us kids loved them.

Luckily you can still see them on Nick At Nite and on YouTube, it's a real trip down memory lane. They have all the old great ones like the Kool-Aid man busting through the fake brick wall and yelling Hey, Kool-Aid...we drank that stuff by the bucket loads. Another favorite was the Mikey, will eat it, he'll eat anything...that one was especially funny because one of my brothers is named Mikey. The Tootsie Roll one was another favorite...One, Two, Crunch...Don't squeeze the Charmin...Plop, Plop, Fizz, Fizz...where's the Beef...Milk, it does the body good...My bologna has a first name...its O S C A R and of course who could forget: two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun.

We grew up hearing these and many more and they have a special place in our histories and childhood's. Sometimes I like to watch them just to grab a little bit of that magic from my childhood. I've even taught a few to my Niece and Nephew although they think their kind of corny they think it's neat that some of the stuff is still around after all these years.

I don't see many commercials like these on today's TV...most of them are so much flash and show and not much when it comes to the actual jingle. Personally, I like the older ones better and I think they did a lot better job at promoting the item...the ones today are so flashy and they cram so many in together ( the last time I counted there were 10 in a row and they went so fast that they ran together) that's it's kind of an overload so you just tune them out...at least I do.
