Commit to an Apple a Day: September is Self Improvement Month!

If you were looking for an excuse to do something just for you, you've found it! September is Self Improvement Month and what better time than now to take stock in the state of your mind, body and spirit? True, there's not a thing different about this month than last in terms of your ability to stick to your goals (sorry!), but that's no reason not to let the national observance fo the vague month-long celebration spur you to great things. To help get you started, we've selected a few of our favorite self improvement ideas (at various price points) that are sure to help you attain your personal best:

FREE!: The Last Lecture. In the now infamous speech, recently deceased Carnegie Mellon Professor Randy Pausch (who was dying of pancreatic cancer at the time) poignantly talks about how to live each day with purpose and joy.

$.50: Say you'll start every day with an apple, or another healthy fruit choice, and then stick to it. Kicking the day off with a positive choice puts you in the right direction for the rest of your meal picks.

$10: Get fit! Burn some serious calories in a high impact exercise class such as spinning, kickboxing or boot camp.

$15: Embark on a journey of self discovery - read A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life's Purpose (Penguin Press) by Eckhart Tolle.

$30: If you find yourself bogged down with an endless list of to-do's, there is help! Manage your life (and become more organized!) with the aid of a personal planner.

$50 - $75: Pamper yourself with a relaxing massage. A massage is much more than just a frivolous indulgence. In fact, there are a number of health benefits associated with being massaged including reduced anxiety and tension, improved blood circulation and pain reduction.
