Commitment Ceremonies for Gays and Lesbians

Most states do not approve of same-sex marriage, while some states such as Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine do. It is not always feasible or affordable for gays and lesbians to travel to other states to get married. So what can you do if your state does not recognize same-sex marriages? Perform a commitment ceremony. A commitment ceremony can give gays and lesbians the same gratification as a marriage, although, a commitment ceremony is not a legally binding ceremony.

A commitment ceremony is a socially recognized marriage between two people of the same gender. Commitment ceremonies is a contract that binds two lives together, committing themselves to one another. Vows are still performed in a commitment ceremony. You may write your own vows making promises about what the commitment means to each of you. You may just promise to love in sickness and in health, in richness and poverty, till death do they part. Some may choose to have readings of love and music after their vows. You will then exchange rings, pronouncement of marriage, and then the reception. It's a ceremony that is performed in the same manner as heterosexual marriages.

Commitment ceremonies for gays and lesbians can be performed even if your state does not allow same-sex marriage. Commitment ceremonies are different from a legal marriage but bring the same joys and blessing to gays and lesbians who want to be in a committed, loving relationship. Most states have gay or lesbian pastors who can perform the ceremony. Sometimes you can get lucky and find an actual preacher who is not gay or lesbian, but who accepts the couple to perform the ceremony. you can locate a preacher who will willingly perform a commitment ceremony wedding for you and your lover at an affordable cost, some may have certain guidelines you must follow, although, it would all be worth it.

For my partner and I, we will be having a commitment ceremony is Columbus, GA and there will be guidelines we have to follow. Example: The female preacher who is performing our ceremony would like for us to attend her church at least twice. She would also like to give us some counseling, this is fine with us as long as we can have the ceremony. The ceremony can range from $200.00 and up, depending on how elaborate you want your ceremony.

Whether you are heterosexual or homosexual, everyone deserves to be happy, committed and recognized in their relationship.
