Science and technology has reached its height of advancement yet many people are still misled and misinformed about cancer and what causes them. Below are the myths and facts about common items that are believed to cause cancer.

Wireless phones. According to MedicineNET.com, the FDA says that wireless phones only emit low levels of radiofrequency (RF) while being used, and very low levels of RF in standby mode. Many studies of low level RF exposures show no biological effects. If you find yourself still at risk, you can act on your own by using wireless phones in moderation and by using the speaker phone, headsets or place the phone far away from your ear when used.

Bras. There is a common misinformation that wearing a bra the whole day compresses the lymphatic system of the breast. This results to the accumulation of toxins that cause breast cancer. Until now, there are no valid scientific studies that link wearing a bra to any type to cancer. There is really no epidemiologic evidence that one's choice of bra influences the risk of breast cancer.

Microwave ovens. The RF microwave ovens produce doesn't make food radioactive, they just heat them. Using microwave ovens the correct way suggest no harmful effects on humans. Not all forms of radiation are harmful as it greatly depends on the type and how much radiation you are exposed to.

Antiperspirants and deodorants. There may have been many thorough studies of breast cancer risks, but there have not been any significant studies relating these household items to be link to breast cancer.

Use and reuse of plastic containers such as bottles and food containers. Every plastic has specific usage or life span. People must know how and when to use it, and when to stop. The improper usage of these products makes it harmful where bacteria and germs grow.

One must know that accurate information and living a healthy lifestyle are the ways to minimize the risk of cancer. There are many factors involved when one does get cancer, so when you feel any symptoms or feel you are at risk, it is always best to consult your physician immediately for direct information and medical help. We should not believe anything and everything that we see. Proper filtering of information helps us take care of ourselves and our loved ones better.
