Many of us are new to cooking and we don't know the first thing about herbs and spices. We do not know which foods that we should include them in. Today in this article I am going to give you the name of some common herbs and spices and I am going to tell you what types of food they should go into. This will help you to become a better cook in no time. You will be amazed at the difference in taste of your foods once you start to include these items.
List of Common Herbs and Spices

- Allspice-pot roasts, meat loaf, ham, fish, chicken, eggs, barbecue sauce, tomato sauces, potato soup, cottage cheese, cabbage, spinach, squash, turnips, coffee cakes, sweet rolls.
- Basil-beef, pork, lamb, spaghetti, fish, tuna, chicken, eggs, clam chowder, vegetable soup, cucumbers, tomatoes, dressings, asparagus, green beans, and squash.
- Chili Powder-meat loaf, hamburgers, rabbit, chicken, eggs, shrimp, split pea soup, stew, chili, sauces, gravies, cottage cheese, potato, guacamole, cauliflower, corn, onions, peas
- Cinnamon-ham, pork chops, chicken, shrimp, stew, fruits, carrots, onions, spinach, squash, sweet potatoes, biscuits, breads, sweet rolls, tea

This is not an exhaustive list of all of the foods that these herbs and spices can go into but it is a start. If you are new to cooking and have not had experience using these items then this can be a start. I encourage you to get a good cookbook and start following the recipes. You will start to understand how to incorporate these herbs and spices into your everyday cooking after awhile. The information that I shared with you above came from my Betty Crocker Cookbook.
