Common Homeopathic Remedies for Headaches
Get Relief from Migraines, Sinus Headaches, and Tension Headaches
Migraine Headaches
Migraines can be excruciatingly painful and difficult to treat. The University of Maryland Medical Center reports that Natrum muriaticum may be used when the pain can be described as "hammers beating the head" and seems to be relieved when you are lying alone in a quiet, dark room. Iris versicolor may be helpful for periodic migraines that are characterized by blurred vision, a pain that typically occurs on one side of the head, and symptoms that are somewhat relieved by movement or fresh air. Women who suffer from migraines that occur on the left side of the head and seem worse before menstruation may find Lachesis to be useful. Sepia can be used for migraines accompanied by nausea and symptoms that seem to worsen when exposed to light and movement.
Sinus Headaches
The University of Maryland Medical Center reports that more than 80 percent of people have significant improvement in their symptoms after taking homeopathic sinus headache remedies for two weeks. Their study found that Arsenicum album can be an effective remedy for sinus headaches described as a throbbing, burning pain that is relieved by sitting upright in a cool room near an open window. Bryonia can be used to treat headaches with a steady, sharp pain that worsens with movement or light touch, and is accompanied by symptoms such as irritability, nausea, vomiting, or constipation. Silicea is helpful for sinus headaches that improve when treated with warm compresses, head wraps, and pressure.
Tension Headaches
Most studies have found that homeopathy is no more effective than a placebo for relieving tension headache pain. However, chronic headaches are still one of the most common reasons people seek homeopathic care. Gelsemium may be used for tension headaches characterized by pain that extends around the head and feels like a tight band of constriction. Belladonna is a homeopathic remedy for throbbing headaches that come on suddenly and have symptoms which get worse with motion and light. Ignatia may be appropriate when the tension headache is triggered by emotion and accompanied by pain that feels like something is being driven into the skull.
