Common Household Items: Not So Common Uses

LMG
We all use common household products at home every day. They seem to be a necessity of our lives. Did you know that some household products can safely be used in other ways than what the label indicates? Here are a few examples for you.

Peroxide can be used to remove dried blood from just about any soft material. Even white!! It is a very easy process too. All you have to do it pour a small amount of peroxide on the blood stain, allow it to bubble for a minute and blot it. Occasionally, the process needs to be repeated, but it does work. Once you are done, there is virtually no trace of blood there at all.

Fabric softener sheets can be used to clean the dust from your television screen, or other electronic devices to help reduce static electricity. Just use a sheet and wipe the surface. Easy and effective.

You can also place fabric softener sheets around you house to help eliminate spiders and ants. Place them in the bottom of your trash can to help absorb odor. Fabric softener sheets have many uses outside of just softening your clothes.

Do you have a grease stain, or other stain in your clothes that is hard to remove? Pre-treat it with a bit of Dawn dish soap. Just squirt it on, rub it in and wash as usual. This works most of the time. It works best if the item of clothing has not been previously washed and dried. It does occasionally work even after it has been through the dryer.

If you have ever spill a red -colored liquid on a light colored rug or upholstery you know how hard it can be to prevent it from staining. If you catch it while it is still fresh, you can draw the stain out by pouring milk on it and blotting it up. Yes, this works. It works great!!

If your walls are smudged and dirty, try this. Spray a little shaving cream on the spot and wipe. Since shaving cream is a very concentrated soap, it seems to be the best I have found to clean the wall and not eat the paint or wallpaper.

Nail polish remover can be used to remove super glue. The ingredient that takes the polish off your nails will also break down the bonding agent in the super glue. Try it. If you wear fake nails, soak one in nail polish remover for a while and see how easily that nail comes off.

Using newspaper instead of paper towels when cleaning your windows leaves less streaking on your windows. It also helps them shine a bit more. You also have the perk of less lint left behind on the surface.

Do you know those little rings you get in you sink, right around the drain, next to the metal? Hard to get clean, aren't they? Not really. Use a pumice stone. Just rub it on the area you want to clean and it will clean it without scratching the surface. It is also helpful in getting those black marks out that metal pans tend to leave behind.

Toothpaste is good for cleaning and shining your jewelry. Just scrub the jewelry with toothpaste and a toothbrush. It will be a lot cleaner and it will shine.

I am sure that there are many more products that have alternative uses, but these are ones I have tried myself and I know work. Keep them in mind the next time you need to remove blood stains or any of the other things I have mentioned. It can save you time and money in the long run.
