Common iPod Problems and How to Fix Them!

iPods can be tricky, that is certainly a fact. Especially if you're not used to this very useful gadget. Along with them being useful, they are very fragile and you must be careful with them. There are a few things you must remember when your ipod is acting goofy. Do you still have an active warranty? If so, this would be your last resort if you're having ipod issues that are not easily fixable.

First thing we're going to cover is the frozen ipod. Say you're getting ready to go for a jog or to run errands and you pick up your ipod only to find that it won't respond. There are ways to go about fixing this annoying problem. For older generation ipods (First through the third) you should make sure it isn't on hold. Press and hold Play/Pause and Menu at the same time for ten seconds. If you have more recent generation ipods (fourth and on) you must make sure hold isn't on much like the older ipods. Then, you must press and hold the menu and select buttons down for ten seconds at the same time. If you have an ipod shuffle, all you have to do is turn it off and then back on again. A sign that you were successful is that the apple should show and then load into the normal ipod screen.

Another common problem is a broken hard drive. If there is a spinning disc with a magnifying glass on your ipod's screen there is only one solution that you can do on your own. This solution is erasing your ipod. Download the ipod updater and run the restore function. This will erase all of the data that you added to your ipod including music, pictures, and whatever else you've managed to add to it. You can restore your ipod when there are other problems you can't seem to fix.

If you connected your device to your computer and it erased all of the songs (and added new songs, possibly) this is what you need to do to prevent it from happening in the future. You must turn off autosync. Another thing you should do to make sure that your ipod stays in good condition is making sure your ipod is updated with the proper firmware. Also, make sure that your Itunes is up to date and any updates needed for whatever OS you use and Quicktime. These will help you in the long run, you'll thank me.

If you have problems like physically broken pieces of the ipod such as the screen, earplug jack, and other parts it's best you send your ipod to apple to get it fixed if you're under warranty. They will fix it for free as long as you didn't purposely break it. If you are not under warranty it will cost a variable amount depending on what needs to be fixed. One thing to remember is that you should only use Itunes when syncing your ipod to the music that you have. The files must be in certain formats or they will not be added.
