Mismatched Foundation
The worst mistake you can ever make when applying makeup is using a foundation that doesn't match your skin tone. You may have to try a few before you find the right one, but if you apply a foundation and find that it doesn't match, do not leave it on. Remove the foundation and either go buy a new one, or go foundation-less that day.
Not Enough Blending
Once you have found that perfect foundation to match your skin, the key to making it look great is blending. Make sure to rub it in so that the lines of where the foundation ends is not visible. If you leave the lines, it won't matter is your foundation matches your skin tone, people will be able to see it anyways.
Way Too Visible Lip Liner
Your lip liner should always match the shade of lipstick you have chosen. Some people have a tendency to choose a lip liner too dark for their shade of lipstick, making the lip liner very obvious, and not very attractive. Lip liner has three purposes (none of which are, "to be seen"): to make thin lips look fuller, to make your lipstick last longer, and to keep your lipstick from running.
Eyeliner On The Bottom Only
Sometimes you're in a rush and there just isn't enough time to apply eyeliner to both the top and bottom eyelids. When this happens, many people tend to just apply it to the bottom because it is much more simple and quick, but it actually ends up making your eyes look droopy. If you are planning on applying eyeliner, try to apply it to both eyelids, but if you really only have time for one, always pick the top.
Applying Makeup Under Weird Lighting
When applying your make up, always, always, use normal lighting conditions. Many people have dimmed lighting in their bathrooms, and applying makeup under this kind of lighting and cause you to think something looks good when it really doesn't.
Not Cleaning Your Brushes
If you continuously apply makeup without washing the remnants of it out of your brush, at least every once in a while, there is a good chance that you will have a much harder time applying your makeup. This can also cause the leftover makeup to mix with the new one and create a look that is undesirable. Also, not cleaning your brushes can cause the bacteria to build up, and that's never good.
