What causes warts?
Warts are cause by the HPV virus which most of us have in our system. A wart is typically spread from person to person fairly easily and it is not uncommon for the majority of people to simply be carriers of the virus and not manifest a wart visibly for their entire life.
One thing that doctors do know is that most warts will go away on their own eventually. The eventually part is what annoys most people though. In some cases, a wart could go away in a couple months while another individual may have a wart for years. In rare cases, a wart won't go away on its own and will require a doctor to remove it. Doctors don't know why some warts are so resistant while other aren't.
Usually a wart is triggered by a weakness in the immune system. This could be something as simple as the common cold. And understanding this should be the key to preventing warts. If you can keep your immune system running on high, then chances are that you can keep warts from forming.
A weak immune system = a potential for the wart to manifest
If you can do things to increase your immune system, then your body may be able to fight off the wart without you having to resort to more drastic means. How do you increase your immune system? Easy...you eat right, exercise and do things that treat your body right.
Once you have a wart, there are several home remedies that you can try. I suggest that you try these first and then if the wart is still stubborn, go to the doctor to have them removed. Here are a couple unconventional home remedies for treating warts.
Garlic- Not only is garlic the super food but there are some that claim garlic will also eradicate your wart. Basically, the premise is that the garlic oil will cause blisters on the skin if not washed off. Take a clove of garlic and crush it. Put the crushed garlic around the area where the wart is and then bandage it up. Leave on overnight. In the morning, you should have a little blister in the area where the garlic is. The wart will fall off in a week.
Duct Tape- The premise behind this is that the foreign substance on the skin will irritate the skin and force your immune system to attack the duct tape stuck to your skin. And since the wart is under the duct tape, your immune system will naturally attack it as well. Apply the duct tape directly on the wart and leave on overnight. Do this every night until the wart falls off and dies.
Pineapple Juice- Here is another popular remedy to removing a wart. The premise is the same as garlic and the citric acid will help to penetrate the root of the wart. Take a cotton ball and dab a bit of pineapple juice on the wart. Bandage it up with a band-aid and leave on overnight. Repeat the process for the next 2-4 weeks until the wart has died and fallen off.
I suggest if you use either of these methods, you should take a hot bath and soak the area for a good 10-15 minutes. The outer shell of the wart is hard and by soaking the wart, you will be able to soften it enough for the area to easily be penetrated.
Conclusion
I can't reiterate that the real way to preventing warts is to strengthen your immune system. If you have a strong immune system, chances are very good that you will be able to fight off the HPV virus. Warts generally will run their course and most people who can stand them, will find that a wart will disappear on its own in due time. For the rest of us, there are plenty of natural wart removal options to try out and test. In the end, if nothing works, the sure fire no fail method is to simply go to a doctor and have them treat it though. Even then, there is no guarantee it won't return.
